Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



Front Bushing
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Control arm
     

  4.  
  5. Press the bushing out using Installer/Remover tool 927680000
  6.  

To install:

  1. Press the bushing in using Installer/Remover tool 927680000
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm
     
    Wheel
     

  4.  

Rear Bushing
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Control arm and matchmark the bushing for reassembly
     
    Nut and bushing
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Bushing into control arm and align the matchmark. Torque the nut to 140 ft. lbs. (190 Nm).
     
    Control arm
     
    Wheel
     

  2.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel assembly
     
    Stabilizer link
     
    Ball joint from housing
     
    Mounting bolts
     
    Control arm
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm to stabilizer. Torque the nut/bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
     
    Control arm to crossmember. Torque the nut/bolt to 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
     
    Control arm to rear mount. Torque the bolts to 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).
     
    Ball joint to housing, Torque the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
     
    Wheel assembly
     

  2.  

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel assembly
     
    Stabilizer link
     
    Ball joint from housing
     
    Mounting bolts
     
    Control arm
     

  2.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm to stabilizer. Torque the nut/bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
     
    Control arm to crossmember. Torque the nut/bolt to 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
     
    Control arm to rear mount. Torque the bolts to 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).
     
    Ball joint to housing, Torque the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
     
    Wheel assembly
     

  2.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sub frame.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the transverse link.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt securing the ball joint of the transverse link to housing.
  12.  
  13. Remove the nut (do not remove the bolt) securing the transverse link to the crossmember.
  14.  
  15. Remove the two bolts securing the bushing bracket of the transverse link to the vehicle body at the rear bushing.
  16.  
  17. Remove the ball joint from the housing.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolt securing the transverse link to the crossmember. Remove the transverse link from the crossmember.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the transverse link to its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Temporarily tighten the two bolts used to secure the rear bushing of the transverse link.
    NOTE
    These bolts should be tightened so that they can still move back and forth in the oblong shaped hole in the bracket, which holds the bushing.

  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Always fully tighten the rubber bushings when the wheels are in full contact with the ground and the vehicle is at curb height.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the transverse link rear bushing to body to 184 ft. lbs. (250 Nm)
  10.  
  11. Check and adjust alignment, as required.
