Removal & Installation

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain any remaining from the fuel tank.
    CAUTION
    Use a hand pump to remove the fuel. Never use a motorized pump.

  7. Remove the rear seat cushion and remove the access cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the fuel tank.
  10.  
  11. Push the grommet which holds the fuel tank wiring harness under the body.
  12.  
  13. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  14.  
  15. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Separate the rear exhaust pipe from the center exhaust pipe.
  18.  
  19. Separate the rear exhaust pipe from the muffler.
  20.  
  21. Remove the hanger bracket from the rubber cushion, then remove the exhaust pipe.
  22.  
  23. Remove the exhaust heat shield.
  24.  
  25. Remove the muffler assembly.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the vent control solenoid valve electrical connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the clip, and disconnect the evaporation hose from the canister.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the hoses from the pressure control solenoid valve.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect the electrical connector from the drain valve, if equipped with On-board refueling vapor recovery.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the electrical connector of the pressure control solenoid valve.
  36.  
  37. Disconnect the hoses from the roll over valve.
  38.  
  39. Remove the mounting bolts which hold the parking brake cable brackets.
  40.  
  41. Remove the rear axle shafts from rear differential assembly.
  42.  
  43. Remove the rear differential front cover.
  44.  
  45. Remove the driveshaft.
  46.  
  47. Remove the lower differential bracket.
  48.  
  49. Using a suitable transmission jack, support the rear differential.
  50.  
  51. Remove the bolts which install the rear differential onto rear crossmember and lower the rear differential assembly from the vehicle.
  52.  
  53. Loosen the clamp, and disconnect the fuel filler hose and air vent hose from the fuel filler pipe and air pipe.
  54.  
  55. Move the clips and disconnect the fuel return hose and evaporation hose.
  56.  
  57. Disconnect the quick connector and disconnect the fuel delivery hose.
  58.  
  59. With an assistant holding the fuel tank, remove the bolts from the mounting bands and lower the fuel tank from the vehicle.
  60.  
  61. Installation is the reverse order of removal. Tighten the mounting bands to 25 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).
