Power Door Locks



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Make sure that door link moves to LOCK or UNLOCK position when battery voltage is applied between the following terminals:
    1. Connect the positive (+) battery terminal to terminal No. 2, and negative (-) battery terminal to terminal No. 4.
    2.  
    3. Connect the positive (+) battery terminal to terminal No. 4, and negative (-) battery terminal to terminal No. 2.

Removal & Installation
Door Lock Motor
1998-2002 Models
  1. Completely close the door glass.
  2.  
  3. Remove the gusset cover, power window switch assembly, pocket and inner door handle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trim panel screws and disengage the trim panel clips.
  6.  
  7. Detach the trim panel and disconnect the electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the speaker, trim bracket and remove assembly. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Using a spatula, remove the door sealer.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the joints of the two rods.
  14.  
  15. Unlatch the rod holder.
  16.  
  17. Remove the inner remote (door handle) assembly.
  18.  
  19. Turn the rod holder to disconnect the joint between the key lock and rod.
  20.  
  21. Turn the rod holder to disconnect the joint between the outer handle and rod.
  22.  
  23. Turn the rod holder to disconnect the joint between the crank and rod.
  24.  
  25. Loosen the screws securing both the latch and door lock motor, then remove the latch and motor assembly through the service hole in the bottom.
  26.  
  27. Installation is the reverse order of assembly.

2003-05 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the gusset cover.
  4.  
  5. Pull up the inner door handle cover toward you to remove the upper hook. Pull down it to remove the lower hook. Remove the inner door handle cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the power window switch assembly.
  8.  
  9. Using a trim panel remover, remove the clips of the trim panel.
  10.  
  11. Using a spatula, remove the door sealer.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screw and two cables.
  14.  
  15. Remove the inner remote (door handle) assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the mounting bolts and nut, then remove the guide rail.
  18.  
  19. Remove the three screws and bolt, then remove the door latch assembly.
  20.  
  21. Loosen the two mounting screws and remove the door lock motor.
  22.  
  23. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

Door Lock Switch

The door look switch is part of the power window switch assembly or part of the inner door latch. Refer to -Power Window Switch, Removal & Installation- for additional information.
