Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain about 1 / 3 of the power steering fluid from the power steering reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt cover and bracket.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the lock bolt and slider bolt, and remove the power steering pump belt.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the power steering pump pulley nut and remove it to detach the power steering pump pulley.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect pressure and return hoses from the power steering pump.
    NOTE
    Always remove the power steering reservoir and pump as an assembly.

  13. Remove the three bolts from the front side of the power steering pump and remove the pump.
  14.  
  15. Remove the three bolts from the lower side of the mounting bracket and remove the bracket.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the mounting bracket on the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the power steering pump on the mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering pump pulley and hand-tighten the pulley nut.
  6.  
  7. Install the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the power steering pump pulley nut to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect the pipes that were removed. Tighten the joint nuts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the electrical connector for the power steering oil pressure switch.
  14.  
  15. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  16.  
  17. Bleed the power steering system.
  18.  
  19. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  20.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain about 1 / 3 of the power steering fluid from the power steering reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt cover.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the lock bolt and slider bolt, and remove the power steering pump belt.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector form the power steering pump switch.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect pressure and return hoses from the power steering pump.
  12.  
  13. Remove power steering pump bracket mounting bolts.
  14.  
  15. Place the power steering pump in a vise and remove the bolts from the front side of the pump.
  16.  
  17. Remove the socket from the pump.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolt from the rear side of the power steering pump to remove it completely from the mounting bracket.

To install:

  1. Install the mounting bracket to the power steering pump. Tighten the rear bolt to 28 ft. lbs. (37 Nm)
  2.  
  3. Install the socket to the pump and tighten to 5 ft. lbs. (7 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the bolts on the front side of the pump. Tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the power steering pump bracket assembly into the vehicle. Tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the pipes that were removed. Tighten the joint nuts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect the electrical connector for the power steering oil pressure switch.
  12.  
  13. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  14.  
  15. Bleed the power steering system.
  16.  
  17. Start the engine and check for leaks.
