Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Brake hose from the caliper body
     
    Caliper retainer bolts and the caliper
     
    Caliper bracket, if necessary
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Compress the piston assembly into the cylinder bore.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Caliper bracket, if removed and secure in place with the retainer bolts. Tighten the retainer bolts to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
     
    Caliper and tighten the retainers to 28 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
     
    Brake hose using new sealing washers, and tighten the fitting to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm)
     

  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheels and check the fluid level in the master cylinder.
  8.  

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Brake hose from the caliper body
     
    Caliper retainer bolts and the caliper
     
    Caliper bracket, if necessary
     

  2.  

To install:

  1. Compress the piston assembly into the cylinder bore.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Caliper bracket, if removed and secure in place with the retainer bolts. Tighten the retainer bolts to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
     
    Caliper and tighten the retainers to 28 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
     
    Brake hose using new sealing washers, and tighten the fitting to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm)
     

  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheels and check the fluid level in the master cylinder.
  8.  

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the brake hose from the brake caliper. Be sure to properly catch the fluid to avoid damage to painted surfaces and improper disposal.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt securing the lock pin (yellow) to caliper body assembly.
  10.  
  11. Raise the caliper body assembly and move it toward the center of the vehicle to separate it from the support.
  12.  
  13. Remove the caliper from its mounting.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the caliper retaining bolts to specification.
  4.  
  5. Be sure to use new brake hose gaskets.
  6.  
  7. Check the brake fluid level, correct as required.
  8.  
  9. Bleed the hydraulic system, as required.
  10.
