Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar)

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stabilizer link.
  10.  
  11. Remove the clamp and bushing bolts which secure the stabilizer bar. Remove the clamps and bushings.
  12.  
  13. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure that the stabilizer bar and the bushings have the same identification markings and/or colors.
  4.  
  5. Be sure to use new bolts and nuts, as required.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the stabilizer link retaining bolts to 44 ft. lbs (60 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Tighten the stabilizer clamp retaining bolts to 25 ft. lbs (35 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Always fully tighten the rubber bushings when the wheels are in full contact with the ground and the vehicle is at curb height.
  12.  
  13. Check and adjust the wheel alignment, as necessary.
