Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
  2.  
  3. Set the tire to the straight-ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the airbag module by performing the following:

    Using TORX® BIT T30 (1), remove the two TORX® bolts on the side of steering wheel
     
    Disconnect the horn harness
     
    Disconnect the airbag connector on the back of airbag module, and then remove the airbag module
     
    Refer to -CAUTION- for handling of a removed airbag module
     
    Disconnect the horn harness.
     
    Disconnect the airbag connector on the back of the airbag module, and then remove.
     

  6.  
  7. Place (1) alignment marks on the steering wheel and steering shaft.
    WARNING
    Always refer to Air Bag System before performing service on the air bag modules.

  9. Remove the steering wheel nut, and then draw out the steering wheel from shaft using steering puller.
  10.  
  11. Remove the steering wheel nut, and then draw out the steering wheel from shaft using steering puller.

To install:


WARNING
Always refer to Air Bag System before performing service on the air bag modules.

  1. Align the center position of the roll connector.
  2.  
  3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
    NOTE
    Align the alignment marks on the steering wheel and steering shaft.

  4.  
  5. Tighten the steering wheel nut to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm). The column cover to steering wheel clearance should be 0.08-0.16 inch (2-4 mm).
    CAUTION
    Insert the roll connector guide pin into the guide hole on the lower end of the steering wheel surface. Avoid damaging the pin.
