Disarming the System

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
    NOTE
    Wait at least 3 minutes before working on the vehicle. The air bag system is designed to retain enough power to deploy the air bag for a short time after the battery has been disconnected.

  1. Turn steering wheel so that vehicle-s wheels (front tires) and pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
  4.  
  5. Turn ignition switch to -LOCK- position and remove key.
  6.  
  7. Remove -AIR BAG- fuse from fuse box (1).
  8.  
  9. Disconnect yellow connector of contact coil and combination switch assembly as follows.
  10.  
  11. Release locking of lock slider (2).
  12.  
  13. After unlocked, disconnect connector.
  14.  
  15. In case of passenger air bag (inflator) module, pull out glove box while pushing its stopper from both right and left sides and disconnect yellow connector of passenger air bag (inflator) module as follows.
    1. Release locking of lock slider (2).
    2.  
    3. After unlocked, disconnect connector.
    4.

  17. If equipped with side air bag (inflator) module, disconnect yellow connector of side air bag (inflator) module under front seat cushion (3).
    1. Release locking of lock slider.
    2.  
    3. After unlocked, disconnect connector.

WARNING
When performing service on or around the air bag system components or wiring, disable the air bag system. Failure to follow the procedures could result in possible deployment, personal injury or unneeded system repairs.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Turn the steering wheel so the wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the key.
  8.  
  9. Remove the AIR BAG-IG fuse from the air bag fuse box located near the junction/fuse box.
  10.  
  11. Remove the left side steering wheel side cap and disconnect the yellow connector for the driver's side air bag (inflator) module.
  12.  
  13. Pull out the glove box while pushing in on the stoppers from the left and the right sides. Disconnect the yellow connector for the passenger air bag (inflator) module.
