Print

  1. Jack up the front end of vehicle and apply safety stands.
  2.
  3. Fill P/S fluid reservoir with fluid up to specified level.
    NOTE
Before starting engine, place transmission gear shift lever in -Neutral- (shift selector lever to -P- range for A/T model), and set parking brake.

  4.
  5. After running engine at idling speed for 3 to 5 seconds, stop it and add fluid to satisfy specification.
  6.
  7. With engine stopped, turn steering wheel to the right and left as far as it stops, repeat it a few times and fill fluid to specified level.
  8.
  9. With engine running at idling speed, repeat stop-to-stop turn of steering wheel till all foams in P/S fluid reservoir are gone.
    NOTE
Make sure to bleed air completely. If air remains in fluid, P/S pump may make humming noise or steering wheel may feel heavy.

  10.
  11. Finally check to make sure that fluid is filled to specified level.

5- & 6-Cylinder Engines

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. With engine off, turn the steering wheel fully to the right and left several times.
    NOTE
Do not allow the fluid level in the reservoir tank to go below the MIN level line. Check and add fluid as needed.

  4.
  5. Run the engine at idle speed. Turn the steering wheel fully to the right and then fully to the left. Hold for about three seconds. Check for fluid leakage.
  6.
  7. Repeat the above step several times at three second intervals.
    NOTE
Do not hold the steering wheel in the locked position for more than ten seconds.

  8.
  9. Check for air bubbles or cloudy fluid. If found, repeat the bleeding procedure.
  10.
  11. Stop the engine and check the fluid level. Fill as required.
  12.
