Removal & Installation



Control Rods
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.

  7. To facilitate toe adjustment after reinstallation, put match marks on washer and on suspension frame.
  8.  
  9. Remove suspension frame cap (for 2WD model).
  10.  
  11. Remove control rod No.2 and No.1 from suspension frame and knuckle.

To install:

  1. Install control rod No. 1, setting it so that its welded nut comes toward the rear.
  2.  
  3. Insert inner bolt and outer bolt from the vehicle front and tighten them temporarily by hand.
  4.  
  5. Install control rod No. 2.
  6.  
  7. Install control rod No. 2, setting it so that its welded nut comes toward the front.
  8.  
  9. Insert control rod No. 2 bolt from the vehicle front and outer bolt from the rear.
  10.  
  11. Install washer with its graduated part facing down.
  12.  
  13. With marks on washer and frame marked before removal aligned to each other, tighten bolts and nut temporarily by hand.
  14.  
  15. Install wheels and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque.
  16.  
  17. Lower hoist and bounce vehicle up and down to stabilize suspension.
    NOTE
    It is the most desirable to have vehicle off hoist and in non-loaded condition when tightening them. Tighten control rod No.2 inner nut with match marks aligned.

  19. Tighten control rod bolts and nuts to specified torque with vehicle weight on suspension.

    Control rod No. 1 (front side) inner nut and outer bolt: 71 ft. lbs. (98 Nm)
     
    Control rod No. 2 (rear side) outer bolt: 71 ft. lbs. (98 Nm)
     
    Control rod No. 2 (rear side) inner nut: 65 ft. lbs. (90 Nm)

  21. Check rear toe and adjust it as necessary.
  22.  
  23. Install suspension frame cap.
  24.  

Front Parallel Link
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear parallel link bolt-to-knuckle and the bolt-to-rear crossmember.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front parallel link.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the front parallel link bolt-to-knuckle and the cam bolt-to-rear crossmember.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the front parallel link bolt-to-knuckle to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Adjust the rear toe, if needed.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the cam bolt to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  10.  

Rear Parallel Link
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear parallel link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft-to-stabilizer link nut.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the rear parallel link with bolt-to-knuckle and the bolt-to-rear crossmember.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the rear parallel link bolt-to-knuckle and the bolt-to-crossmember to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  6.  

Trailing Link
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the trailing link bolt-to-knuckle and the trailing link bracket bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the trailing link.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the trailing link with bolt-to-knuckle and the bolts-to-trailing link bracket.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the trailing link bolt-to-knuckle to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm) and the trailing link bracket bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  6.  

Trailing Rod
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Detach parking brake cable clamp from trailing rod.
  8.  
  9. Remove trailing rod bolts and trailing rod.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install trailing rod and tighten bolts by hand.
  2.  
  3. Attach parking brake cable clamp to trailing rod.
  4.  
  5. Lower vehicle and bounce vehicle up and down to stabilize suspension.
  6.  
  7. Tighten trailing rod bolts to 71 ft. lbs. (98 Nm) with vehicle weight on suspension.
  8.  

Upper Control Arm
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper arm nut-to-rear knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nuts upper arm-to-body.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper arm.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the upper arm with nuts-to-body.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the upper arm nuts-to-body to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the upper arm nut-to-rear knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the upper arm nut-to-rear knuckle to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  10.
