Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



Front

NOTE
Front wheel speed sensor is serviceable only as an assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  4.  
  5. Hoist vehicle and remove wheel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove front wheel speed sensor from steering knuckle.

To install:

  1. Before installation, check the following:


    1. Check-O-ring for damage and deterioration. Replace if necessary.
    2.  
    3. Check to make sure that sensor tooth is free from any metal particles.
    4.

  3. Install front wheel sensor to steering knuckle.
  4.  
  5. Tighten sensor bolt to 8 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect sensor connector securely.
  8.  
  9. Tighten wheel nuts and lower hoist.
  10.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
  4.  
  5. Hoist vehicle and remove wheel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect front wheel speed sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Push out grommet of harness from inner fender to outside of vehicle.

  11. Remove harness clamp bolts and remove front wheel speed sensor from knuckle.
    CAUTION
    Do not pull wire harness when removing front wheel speed sensor. Do not cause damage to surface of front wheel speed sensor and do not allow dust, etc. to enter its installation hole.

To install:

  1. Check that no foreign material is attached to sensor and rotor.
  2.  
  3. Install it by reversing removal procedure.
  4.  
  5. Tighten wheel speed sensor bolt to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
    CAUTION
    Do not pull wire harness or twist more than necessary when installing front wheel speed sensor. Fit harness grommet to inner fender securely.

  7. Check that there is no clearance between sensor and knuckle.
  8.  

Rear

NOTE
Rear wheel speed sensor is serviceable only as an assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  4.  
  5. Hoist vehicle and remove wheel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove rear wheel speed sensor from brake backing plate.

To install:

  1. Before installation, check the following:


    1. Check-O-ring for damage and deterioration. Replace if necessary.

  3. Install rear wheel sensor to brake backing plate.
  4.  
  5. Tighten sensor bolt to 8 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect sensor connector securely.
  8.  
  9. Tighten wheel nuts and lower hoist.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
  4.  
  5. Hoist vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect rear wheel speed sensor connector and detach connector and wire harness from suspension frame.
  8.  
  9. Remove harness clamp screws and remove rear wheel speed sensor from knuckle.
    CAUTION
    Do not pull wire harness when removing rear wheel speed sensor. Do not cause damage to surface of rear wheel speed sensor or pole piece and do not allow dust, etc. to enter its installation hole.

  10.  

To install:

  1. Check that no foreign material is attached to sensor and rotor.
