Removal & Installation




WARNING
Do not allow fluid to get on painted surfaces.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Clean around reservoir cap and take out fluid with syringe or such.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect fluid hose from clutch operating cylinder.
  6.  
  7. Remove operating cylinder attaching bolts and operating cylinder.

NOTE
For air bleeding of master cylinder alone, it must be removed from vehicle body.

Fig. Apply small amount of grease to rod tip (-A-), but don-t allow any grease to get on the boot -Esteem models equipped with a hydraulic clutch system

  1. Apply small amount of grease to rod tip. Don-t allow any grease to be on boot.
  2.  
  3. Install clutch operating cylinder and tighten attaching bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect clutch fluid hose and tighten bolt to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Fill reservoir with specified brake fluid and check for fluid leakage.
  8.  
  9. After installation, bleed air from system.
  10.  
  11. Check clutch pedal free travel as follows:


    1. Depress clutch pedal, stop the moment clutch resistance is felt, and measure how much pedal has moved (clutch pedal free travel) as represented by -d- in the figure.
    2.  
    3. Then check its conformance to specification. Specification (-d-) should measure 0.24-0.51 inch (6-13mm)
    4.  
    5. If -d- is not within specification, check pedal arm and master cylinder and replace defective part.
