Removal & Installation

Print

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
  5. Discharge the A/C system.
  6.
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  8.
  9. Remove the power steering pump.
  10.
  11. Disconnect the cooler refrigerant discharge hose.
  12.
  13. Remove the O-ring from the cooler refrigerant discharge hose.
    NOTE
Seal the opening of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering.

  14.
  15. Disconnect the cooler refrigerant suction hose.
  16.
  17. Remove the O-ring from the cooler refrigerant suction hose.
  18.
  19. Disconnect the wiring connector.
  20.
  21. Remove the mounting bolts and the compressor assembly. To install
    NOTE
When replacing the compressor and magnetic clutch with new one, after gradually removing the refrigerant gas from the service valve, drain the some of the oil from the new compressor and magnetic clutch before installation. The oil amount to be removed when replacing should equal the remaining oil amount in the removed compressor and magnetic clutch. When checking the compressor oil level, observe the precautions on the cooler removal/installation.

    WARNING
Because compressor oil remains in the pipes of the vehicle, if a new compressor and magnetic clutch is installed without removing some oil inside, the oil amount becomes too much, preventing heat exchange in the refrigerant cycle and causing refrigerant failure. If the remaining oil in the removed compressor and magnetic clutch is too small in volume, check for oil leakage. Be sure to use ND-OIL8 for compressor oil.

  22.
  23. Install the compressor assembly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  24.
  25. Connect the wiring connector.
  26.
  27. Install cooler refrigerant suction hose as follows:

    1. Remove the attached vinyl tape from the hose.
    2.
    3. Sufficiently apply compressor oil to the new O-ring and fit surface of the compressor. Use compressor oil ND-OIL 8 or equivalent.
    4.
    5. Install the new O-ring to the suction hose.
    6.
    7. Install the suction hose to the compressor and tighten the fastener to 87 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    8.

  28.
  29. Install cooler refrigerant discharge hose as follows:

    1. Remove the attached vinyl tape from the hose.
    2.
    3. Sufficiently apply compressor oil to the new O-ring and fit surface of the compressor. Use compressor oil ND-OIL 8 or equivalent.
    4.
    5. Install the new O-ring to the discharge hose.
    6.
    7. Install the discharge hose to the compressor and tighten the fastener to 87 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    8.

  30.
  31. Install the power steering pump.
  32.
  33. Install the accessory drive belt.
  34.
  35. Connect the negative battery cable.
  36.
  37. Charge the A/C system.
  38.
  39. Start the engine and allow enough time to warm up.
  40.
  41. Inspect the A/C system for refrigerant leakage.
