Adjustment



The front and rear wheel bearings are a cartridge type design and cannot be adjusted.

The front wheel bearings are a cartridge type design and cannot be adjusted.

Cleaning & Repacking



  1. Apply lithium grease to the bearing races, bearings and oil seal lips.
  2.  

Removal & Installation




NOTE
Always replace bearing races as a complete set.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Once the bearing outer race is removed, the bearing set (outer race, bearings and inner races) should be replaced.



    Front wheel
     
    Brake caliper, carrier and disc from the steering knuckle
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS)
     
    Tie rod from the steering knuckle
     
    Hub from the steering knuckle
     
    Steering knuckle
     
    Wheel bearing outside race from the hub using a suitable bearing puller

    Outside oil seal, snapring, outside bearing, inside oil seal and the inside bearing in that order

To install


NOTE
When installing the oil seals, be careful not to deform or tilt. Damage to the rubber part of the seal may occur.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New bearing outer race into the knuckle using a press and the following tools: Bearing Installer Handle 09924-74510, Bearing And Oil Seal Installer 09944-68210 and a Bearing Installer Support 0994-78210
     

  2.  
  3. Apply lithium grease to the bearing races, bearings and oil seal lips.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:
    CAUTION
    If equipped with ABS use caution when installing the oil seal, because the seal has a hole that must align with the speed sensor position.



    Outside bearing on the steering knuckle
     
    Snapring to hold the outside bearing in place, then the outside oil seal
     
    Inside bearing to the steering knuckle
     
    Inside race and oil seal to the steering knuckle. When installing the inside oil seal, drive the oil seal in until it contacts the steering knuckle.

  6.  
  7. Using a press and the proper tools, press the hub into the steering knuckle. After installation, be sure the hub is installed straight and turns freely.
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

    Steering knuckle in the vehicle
     
    Tie rod end
     
    Brake caliper, carrier and disc on the steering knuckle
     
    Front wheel

NOTE
Always replace bearing races as a complete set.

To install


NOTE

    Snapring to hold the outside bearing in place, then the outside oil seal
     
    Inside bearing to the steering knuckle
     
    Inside race and oil seal to the steering knuckle. When installing the inside oil seal, drive the oil seal in until it contacts the steering knuckle.

  6.  
  7. Using a press and the proper tools, press the hub into the steering knuckle. After installation, be sure the hub is installed straight and turns freely.
