Fuel Injectors

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the pressure from the fuel system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Air cleaner assembly
     
    Air cleaner mounting stay from the throttle body
     
    Injector cover
     
    Injector from the throttle body
     
    Injector O-rings and discard
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Inspect the injector filter for dirt or contamination. If present, clean and check for dirt in the fuel lines and tank.
  2.  
  3. Apply a tin coat of spindle oil or gasoline to the new O-rings.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Lower injector O-ring to the injector cavity and the upper O-ring to the injector

    Fig. Install the lower injector O-ring (2) to the injector cavity (1) and the upper O-ring (3) to the injector

     
    Injector by pushing straight into the injector cavity. Do not turn the injector while pushing.
     

  6.  
  7. Make sure the injector cover O-ring is free of contamination and has not deteriorated. Apply a coat of spindle oil or gasoline to the O-ring.
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

    Injector cover and tighten the retainers to 24-36 inch lbs. (3-4 Nm)
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch on and check for fuel leaks

    Air cleaner mounting stay to the throttle body
     
    Air cleaner assembly
     

  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the pressure from the fuel system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator
     
    Fuel injector electrical connections
     
    Fuel rail bolts
     
    Injector from the fuel rail
     
    Injector O-ring and discard
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Coat the injector O-rings with gasoline.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Injector O-ring
     
    Injector to the fuel rail and intake manifold.
     

  4.  
  5. Make sure the injectors rotate smoothly. If not, the O-ring has been improperly installed and must be replaced.

    Fuel rail bolts. Once the bolts are tightened make sure the injectors rotate smoothly.
     
    Fuel injector electrical connections
     
    Vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
  8.
