  11. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
To prevent breakage of the boots, be careful not to bring the boots in contact with other components when removing the shaft assembly.

Sway bar attaching nut, washer and bushing from the suspension arm

Ball joint stud bolt and nut

Inboard joint from the differential by pulling it

Outer joint from the steering knuckle

    Halfshaft from the vehicle

  12.
  13. If the center shaft requires service, drain the transmission oil and remove the support bolts. Remove the center shaft from the differential, then from the vehicle.
  14.

To install:

  1. If the center shaft was removed, install the shaft into the differential, then install the support bolts. Tighten the support bolts to 29-43 ft. lbs. (40-60 Nm).
  2.
  3. Clean the grease seal on the steering knuckle and apply a small amount of fresh grease.
  4.
  5. Install or connect the following:
    WARNING
Do not hit the joints with a hammer to seat them. Use hand pressure only or component damage may occur.

Wheel side joint on the steering knuckle, then the differential side joint on the differential. Seat the differential joint by hand, making sure that the snapring is seated.

Halfshaft nut on the outer joint loosely, to hold it in position.

Suspension arm to the steering knuckle

    Ball joint stud

Sway bar on the suspension arm

Sway bar bushing, washer and nut. Tighten the nut to 17-20 ft. lbs. (23-28 Nm).

  6.
  7. If equipped with a manual transaxle fill the transaxle with the specified gear oil.
  8.
  9. Tighten the halfshaft nut to 109-145 ft. lbs. (150-200 Nm).
  10.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
  13. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, fill the transaxle with the specified transmission oil.
