Esteem



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Wait for a least 1 minute for the air bag system to deplete its energy before working on any part the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the blend door (mode) actuator by performing the following procedure:

    Disconnect the mode actuator connector.
     
    At the heater housing, remove the mode actuator rod.
     
    Remove the actuator from the heater housing.

  13. Remove the rear air duct.
  14.  
  15. Remove the heater housing.
  16.  
  17. Remove the heater housing clips and screws; then, separate the heater housings.
  18.  
  19. Remove the heater core from the heater housing.

To install:

  1. Install the heater core to the heater housing.
  2.  
  3. Assemble the heater housings and install the heater housing clips and screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the heater housing.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear air duct.
  8.  
  9. Install the blend door (mode) actuator by performing the following procedure:

    Install the actuator to the heater housing.
     
    At the heater housing, install the mode actuator rod.
     
    Connect the mode actuator connector.

  11. Install the instrument panel.
  12.  
  13. Refill the cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  18.  

Removal And Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Wait for a least 1 minute for the air bag system to deplete its energy before working on any part the instrument panel.

  7. Remove the instrument panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mode actuator by performing the following procedure:

    Disconnect the mode actuator coupler.
     
    At the heater housing, remove the mode actuator rod.
     
    Remove the mode actuator from the heater housing.

  11. Remove the rear air duct.
  12.  
  13. Remove the heater housing.
  14.  
  15. Remove the heater housing clips and screws; then, separate the heater housings.
  16.  
  17. Remove the heater core from the heater housing.

To install:

  1. Install the heater core to the heater housing.
  2.  
  3. Assemble the heater housings and install the heater housing clips and screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the heater housing.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear air duct.
  8.  
  9. Install the mode actuator by performing the following procedure:

    Install the mode actuator to the heater housing.
     
    At the heater housing, install the mode actuator rod.
     
    Connect the mode actuator coupler.

  11. Install the instrument panel.
  12.  
  13. Refill the cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Swift



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the heater hoses at the heater core. Plug the heater hoses.
  8.  
  9. Remove the console box.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical wires and control cables from the heater housing.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the steering joint upper bolt and remove the steering column unit from the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the speedometer assembly, the left and right speaker covers, the hood opening cable and the center garnish from the dash.
  16.  
  17. Remove the dashboard mounting bolts and the dashboard being careful to protect it from damage.
  18.  
  19. Remove the heater housing mounting bolts and remove it from the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Remove the attaching screws and clips which hold the heater housing together and separate the housing to gain access to the heater core.
  22.  
  23. Remove the heater core from the case.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the heater core to the case.
  2.  
  3. Install the heater housing and the attaching screws and clips.
  4.  
  5. Install the heater housing and mounting bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install the dashboard and mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Install the speedometer assembly, the left and right speaker covers, the hood opening cable and the center garnish to the dash.
  10.  
  11. Install the steering column unit and connect the steering joint upper bolt.
  12.  
  13. Connect the electrical wires and control cables to the heater housing.
  14.  
  15. Install the console box.
  16.  
  17. Connect the heater hoses at the heater core.
  18.  
  19. Refill the cooling system.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.  
  23. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

  3. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.

  5. Disconnect the heater hoses at the heater core. Plug the heater hoses.
  6.  
  7. Remove the console box.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical wires and control cables from the heater housing.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the steering joint upper bolt and remove the steering column unit from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the speedometer assembly, the left and right speaker covers, the hood opening cable and the center garnish from the dash.
  14.  
  15. Remove the dashboard mounting bolts and the dashboard being careful to protect it from damage.

  17. Remove the heater housing mounting bolts and remove it from the vehicle.
