Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



Front
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel.
  8.  
  9. Turn the steering wheel to expose the speed sensor. It is located at the rear of the steering knuckle near the tie rod end.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt and the front wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle.

  13. Free the feedthrough grommet for the speed sensor harness and the hydraulic pipe from the strut tower. Remove the speed sensor harness from it so that the connector can pass through the hole in the strut tower.

  15. Free the sensor harness from the grommet holders and the clamps and pull it through the fender.

To install:

  1. Install the front wheel speed sensor to the steering knuckle. Secure it with the bolt.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the front wheel speed sensor bolt to 71 inch. lbs. (8 Nm)
  4.  
  5. Feed the sensor harness into the engine compartment, insert it into the grommet, and secure the grommet into the hole in the strut tower.
  6.  
  7. Secure the harness into the grommet holders and the clamps under the fender.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Connect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

Rear
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector.

  7. Remove the rear hub unit from the knuckle assembly.
    NOTE
    The rear wheel speed sensor is not serviceable separately.

To install:

  1. Install the rear hub unit to the knuckle assembly.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the rear hub unit to the knuckle assembly to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm)
  4.  
  5. Connect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  6.
