Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control arm.
  4.  
  5. Remove the split sleeves from the rear control arm bushing.

    Fig. Press off/on control arm bushing using a press and remover/installer tool

  6.  
  7. Press off the control arm rear damping bushing using a press and the remover/installer KM-158.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Press the control arm rear damping bushing into the control arm using a press and the remover/installer KM-158.
  2.  
  3. Install the split sleeves into the rear control arm bushing.
  4.  
  5. Install the control arm.
  6.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle. Let the control arms hang free.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Pinch bolt and nut from the ball joint
     
    Ball joint from knuckle assembly using ball joint remover KM-507-B
     
    Control arm-to-crossmember bolts
     
    Control arm from vehicle
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm
     
    Control arm-to-crossmember bolts. Do not tighten the bolts.
     
    Ball joint to steering knuckle
     
    Ball joint pinch bolt and the nut. Tighten ball joint pinch bolt and nut to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
     
    Control arm-to-crossmember bolts. Tighten the front control arm-to-crossmember bolt to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm) and the rear control arm-to-crossmember bolt to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Install the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Check the front wheel alignment.
  10.
