Adjustment



Parking brake cable adjustment can be made at the parking brake handle, by adjusting the hex nut on the end of the pull rod.

  1. Remove the parking brake / gearshift console hood.
  2.  
  3. Adjust the parking brake hex nut on the end of pull rod.
  4.  
  5. Verify adjustment has been properly made.

To install:

  1. Install parking brake / gearshift console hood.
    NOTE
    Be sure to check parking brake shoe adjustment prior to cable adjustment. This is only for cables that may have stretched over time.

Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the parking brake / gearshift console hood.
  2.  
  3. Release the parking brake lever and the hex nut on the end of pull rod.

  5. Remove the parking brake cable ends from the equalizer.

  7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear wheels.
  10.  
  11. Remove the detent screw of the rear disc brake and remove the brake disc.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear hub assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the retaining pin.
  16.  
  17. Remove the parking brake cable from the trailing shoe.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolts securing the parking brake cable to the underbody clip on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.

  21. Remove the parking brake cable from the clip near the fuel tank strap.
  22.  
  23. Remove the parking brake cables from the vehicle.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the new parking brake cable (if necessary) through the rear disc brake backing plate and attach to the brake trailing shoe lever.
  2.  
  3. Ensure the parking brake cable is routed correctly.
  4.  
  5. Install the rear brake disc by fastening the detent screw.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the rear brake disc detent screw to 35 inch. lbs. (4 Nm)
  8.  
  9. Install the parking brake cable to the trailing shoe.
  10.  
  11. Install the retaining pin.
  12.  
  13. Install the rear hub assembly
  14.  
  15. Install the bolts securing the parking brake cable to a bracket on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Tighten the parking brake cable-to-underbody side bracket bolts to 53 inch. lbs. (6 Nm)
  18.  
  19. Install the parking brake cable to the clip near the fuel tank strap.
  20.  
  21. Attach the parking brake cable ends to the equalizer.
  22.  
  23. Adjust the hex nut on the end of pull rod.
  24.  
  25. Install the parking brake / gearshift console hood.
  26.
