INSPECTION

See Figure 1

It will be necessary to use a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM), set on the voltmeter function, for this procedure.

  1. Remove the G sensor from the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Inspect the G sensor bracket for bends.
  4.

Fig. Fig. 1: To test the G sensor, measure the terminal resistance in all three positions (as shown)-if the values were not as specified, replace the sensor with a new one

  1. Connect the positive lead of a 12 volt DC battery to G sensor terminal A, and the negative lead to G sensor terminal C, then measure the voltage between sensor terminals B (positive DVOM lead) and C (negative DVOM lead) under the following circumstances:

Positioned horizontally-teh voltage should be 2-3 volts

Positioned upright with the arrow pointing upward-teh voltage should be 3-4 volts

Positioned upright with the arrow pointing downward-teh voltage should be 1-2 volts

  2.

If the voltage was not as specified, replace the G sensor with a new one.

  1. Install the G sensor.
  2.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figure 2

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
  5. Remove the rear center console from the inside of the vehicle.
  6.

Only loosen bolt (B) in the following step-do not remove it.

Fig. Fig. 2: The G sensor is mounted next to, and actually shares two mounting bolts with, the parking brake handle

  1. Remove parking brake lever bolts (A) and the G sensor with the bracket from the vehicle floor.
  2.
  3. Separate the wiring harness connector from the G sensor.
  4.

WARNING
Do not separate the G sensor from the mounting bracket; it will result in sensor damage.

To install:
  1. Attach the wiring harness connector to the G sensor.
  2.
  3. Install the parking brake lever bolts (A) and the G sensor with the bracket.
  4.
  5. Install the rear center console.
  6.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.
