Suzuki Samurai/Sidekick/Tracker 1986-1998 Repair Guide

Soft Top

See Figure 1

Many of the Suzuki and Geo models covered in this guide utilize a soft top. Although soft top fabric manufacturing processes have made great technological jumps since the early years of convertible top manufacturing, the soft tops used on these vehicles often wear out and require replacement.

If you need to purchase a new soft top for your Sidekick, Tracker or Samurai, you can buy one from a local dealership although neither Suzuki nor Geo manufactures the soft tops used on these models. The manufacturer for the Suzuki and Geo soft tops is a company called Bestop®. Soft tops can be purchased from Bestop® dealers directly, and have the added advantages of lower cost and different styles available. Purchasing a new soft top from a Bestop® dealer can often be 3 or 4 times less expensive than the same top purchased from a dealership parts department. Bestop® also offers many styles and colors of soft tops to choose from.

Therefore, if you need to purchase a replacement soft top for your vehicle, you may find it advantageous to investigate the possibility of buying one from Bestop or another aftermarket manufacturer. For removal and installation of your soft top, refer to your owner's guide, which presents a very detailed procedure.
