REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. If equipped, disable the air bag system.
  4.  
  5. Carefully pull the knobs off of the control levers.
  6.  
  7. On Sidekick, Tracker, Sidekick Sport and X-90 models, grasp the trim panel and pull it off of the instrument panel.
  8.  
  9. On Samurai models, insert an L-shaped hook through one of the control lever holes, then pull the trim panel off of the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. On Sidekick, Tracker, Sidekick Sport and X-90 models, perform the following:
    1. Remove the ashtray and center garnish mounting screw, then separate the garnish from the instrument panel.
    2.  
    3. Remove the glove box, lower steering column cover and knee bolster from the instrument panel.
    4.  
    5. Remove the instrument panel glove box compartment, then detach the control cables from the blower motor unit and heater case.

  13. Remove the control panel mounting fasteners.
  14.  
  15. Detach the wiring harness connector from the blower motor switch, mounted in the control panel.
  16.  
  17. Withdraw the heater-A/C control panel from the instrument panel. The control panel for Sidekick, Tracker, Sidekick Sport and X-90 models pulls out of the instrument panel, whereas the control panel for Samurai models must be pushed into the instrument panel and removed from below.

To install:
  1. Install the control panel in the instrument panel, then install and tighten the mounting fasteners.
  2.  
  3. Reattach the wiring and control cables to the control panel. Adjust the cables as described earlier in this section.
  4.  
  5. If applicable, install the instrument panel glove box compartment, the knee bolster, the lower steering column cover and the glove box. Also, install the garnish and ashtray in the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the control panel mounting fasteners securely.
  8.  
  9. Position the control panel over the control levers, then press it in until it is fully engaged in the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Install the control level knobs on the levers.
