REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front Turn Signal and Parking Lights
SAMURAI MODELS
See Figure 1
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly lens retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Pull the lens and gasket off of the light assembly.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the lens gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
  8.

Grasp the light bulb to be removed and gently press it in toward its socket. While pressing the bulb in, turn the bulb counterclockwise until the two little pins on the bulb base clear the channels in the socket.

  1. Once the lens is removed from the light assembly, the individual light bulb(s) can be removed. To remove the light bulb(s):
    1. Grasp the light bulb to be removed and gently press it in toward its socket.
    2.  
    3. While pressing the bulb in, turn the bulb counterclockwise until the two little pins on the bulb base clear the channels in the socket.
    4.  
    5. Pull the bulb up and out of its socket.
    6.

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it in and turning it clockwise until the bulb pins are fully engaged.
  4.  
  5. Install the lens and gasket on the housing. Tighten the lens retaining screws until they are snug.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

SIDEKICK, TRACKER, SIDEKICK SPORT AND X-90 MODELS

See Figures 2 through 4

  1. Open the hood; the bulb socket is accessible from the in the engine compartment and is located on the outboard side of the headlight.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bulb socket from the light assembly housing by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it out of the housing.
  6.  
  7. Once the lens is removed from the light assembly, the individual light bulb(s) can be removed. To remove the light bulb(s):
    1. Grasp the light bulb to be removed and gently press it in toward its socket.

    3. While pressing the bulb in, turn the bulb counterclockwise until the two little pins on the bulb base clear the channels in the socket.

    5. Pull the bulb out of the socket.

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb. Also inspect the metal terminals of the bulb socket.
  2.  
  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it in and turning it clockwise until the bulb pins are fully engaged.
  4.  
  5. Insert the bulb and socket into the light assembly housing, then turn it clockwise until it stops. Give the socket a slight tug to ensure that it is properly retained in the housing.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Close the hood.
  10.  

Side Marker Light

SAMURAI MODELS

See Figure 5

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly lens retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Pull the lens and gasket off of the light assembly.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the lens gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
  8.

  1. Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out of the socket.
  2.  

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Press the bulb straight into the socket until it is fully seated.
  4.  
  5. INstall the lens and gasket on the housing. Tighten the lens retaining screws until they are snug.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

SIDEKICK, TRACKER, SIDEKICK SPORT AND X-90 MODELS-2-DOOR HARD TOP REAR LIGHTS

See Figures 6 through 11

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly retaining screw.
  4.  
  5. Pull the light assembly and gasket off of the rear fender.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the light assembly attaching screw, then remove the lens and gasket from the housing.
  8.  
  9. Inspect the gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out of the socket.

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Press the bulb straight into the socket until it is fully seated.
  4.  
  5. Reassemble the light housing and secure it with the attaching screw.
  6.  
  7. Install the light housing on the fender. Tighten the retaining screw until it is snug.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

SIDEKICK, TRACKER, SIDEKICK SPORT AND X-90 MODELS-EXCEPT 2-DOOR HARD TOP REAR LIGHTS

See Figures 12 through 16

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the light housing by pulling outward on the outboard end of the housing (toward the rear of the vehicle for the rear light housing, toward the front of the vehicle for the front light housing) and sliding the housing toward the passenger door.

  1. Remove the bulb socket from the light assembly housing by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it out of the housing.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out of the socket.
  4.  

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Press the bulb straight into the socket until it is fully seated.
  4.  
  5. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it in and turning it clockwise until the bulb pins are fully engaged.

  1. INstall the light housing on the fender by first pushing the outboard end of the light housing in, then by pushing the other end in.
  2.  
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  

Rear Turn Signal, Brake and Parking Lights

SAMURAI MODELS

See Figures 17 and 18

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly lens retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Pull the lens and gasket off of the light assembly.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the lens gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
  8.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Pull the light assembly and gasket off of the rear fender.
  6.

  1. Inspect the gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bulb socket from the light assembly housing by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it out of the housing.
  4.  

There are a possible of two types of bulbs used in this housing: larger bulbs with a round metal base and smaller bulbs without any metal base.

  1. To remove the larger bulbs equipped with metal bases:
    1. Grasp the light bulb to be removed and gently press it in toward its socket.
    2.  
    3. While pressing the bulb in, turn the bulb counterclockwise until the two little pins on the bulb base clear the channels in the socket.
    4.  
    5. Pull the bulb up and out of its socket.
    6.

  3. To remove the smaller bulbs with a metal base, pull the bulb straight out of the socket.
  4.  

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. For the metal-based bulbs, install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it in and turning it clockwise until the bulb pins are fully engaged.
  4.  
  5. For the all glass bulbs, simply press the bulb straight into the socket until it is fully seated.
  6.  
  7. Install the light bulb socket in the housing by inserting it and turning it fully clockwise.
  8.  
  9. INstall the light housing and gasket on the fender. Tighten the retaining screws until they are snug.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

High-Mounted Brake Light

CONVERTIBLE MODELS

See Figure 24

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Open the rear window.
  4.  
  5. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Pull the light assembly and gasket off of the body.
  8.  
  9. Inspect the gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.

  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it in and turning it clockwise until the bulb pins are fully engaged.
  4.  
  5. Install the light bulb socket in the housing by inserting it and turning it fully clockwise.
  6.  
  7. INstall the light housing on the body. Tighten the retaining screws until they are snug.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

HARD TOP MODELS

See Figures 25 and 26

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Open the rear door.
  4.  
  5. Remove the light assembly by disengaging the two retaining clips.
  6.  
  7. Pull the light assembly and gasket off of the body.
  8.  
  9. Inspect the gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bulb socket from the light assembly housing by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it out of the housing.
  12.  
  13. To remove the bulbs, perform the following:
    1. Grasp the light bulb to be removed and gently press it in toward its socket.
    2.  
    3. While pressing the bulb in, turn the bulb counterclockwise until the two little pins on the bulb base clear the channels in the socket.
    4.  
    5. Pull the bulb up and out of its socket.
    6.

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb.

  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it in and turning it clockwise until the bulb pins are fully engaged.
  4.  
  5. Install the light bulb socket in the housing by inserting it and turning it fully clockwise.
  6.  
  7. INstall the light housing on the body by pressing it into position until the retaining clips are fully engaged.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

Dome Light

SAMURAI MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the light assembly lens by pressing on the lens cover at the end points, then by pulling the lens down and off of the light housing.
  4.  
  5. Once the lens is removed from the light assembly, the individual light bulb can be removed. To remove the light bulb, pull it straight down from between the metal contacts.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Inspect the light housing metal contact terminals and, if the old bulb is being reinstalled, the contacts on the light bulb; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts on the light housing or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it up between the metal terminals until it is fully seated.
  4.  
  5. Position the lens over the light housing, then press up until the retaining latches engage.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.

SIDEKICK, TRACKER, SIDEKICK SPORT AND X-90 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the light assembly lens by carefully prying the lens cover off of the light housing.
  4.  
  5. Once the lens is removed from the light assembly, the individual light bulb can be removed. To remove the light bulb, pull it straight down from between the metal contacts.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Inspect the light housing metal contact terminals and, if the old bulb is being reinstalled, the contacts on the light bulb; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts on the light housing or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it up between the metal terminals until it is fully seated.
  4.  
  5. Position the lens over the light housing, then press up until the retaining latches engage.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

Interior Reading Lights

SIDEKICK, TRACKER, SIDEKICK SPORT AND X-90 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the light assembly cover by loosening the retaining screws, then by pulling the lens down and off of the light housing.
  4.  
  5. Once the lens is removed from the light assembly, the individual light bulb can be removed. To remove the light bulb, pull it straight down from between the metal contacts.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Inspect the light housing metal contact terminals and, if the old bulb is being reinstalled, the contacts on the light bulb; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts on the light housing or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it up between the metal terminals until it is fully seated.
  4.  
  5. Position the lens over the light housing, then install the retaining screws until snug.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

License Plate Lights

SAMURAI MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly lens retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Pull the lens and gasket off of the light assembly.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the lens gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
  8.  
  9. Once the lens is removed from the light assembly, the individual light bulb can be removed. To remove the light bulb, pull it straight out of the socket.
  10.  

To install:
  1. If the old bulb is being reinstalled, inspect the light bulb contacts; they should be clean and free of corrosion. Otherwise, clean the contacts or purchase a new bulb.
  2.  
  3. Install the light bulb in the socket by pressing it in until fully seated in the socket.
  4.  
  5. INstall the lens and gasket on the housing. Tighten the lens retaining screws until they are snug.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

SIDEKICK, TRACKER, SIDEKICK SPORT AND X-90 MODELS

See Figures 27 and 28

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the light assembly retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Pull the light assembly and gasket off of the body.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the gasket for tearing or crumbling. If any such damage is evident, replace the old gasket with a new one upon installation.
