REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Samurai Models
  1. Block the rear wheels, then raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands. Support the rear axle housing with a hydraulic floor jack.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper and lower shock absorber mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear shock absorber.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the rear shock absorber.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the mounting bolts to 23-39 ft. lbs. (35-4 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear axle support and lower the vehicle. Remove the wheel blocks.
  6.  

Sidekick, Tracker, Sidekick Sport and X-90 Models

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

  1. Block the rear wheels, then raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands.

  1. Support the rear axle housing with a hydraulic floor jack to prevent it from lowering.

  1. Remove the shock absorber upper locknut and retaining nut.
  2.

  1. Remove the lower shock absorber from the axle housing by removing the mounting nut and bolt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear shock absorber.
  4.

To install:
  1. Install the rear shock absorber.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower mounting nut and bolt. The lower bolt's head should point in toward the center of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper retaining nut and locknut.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the upper mounting nuts to 16-25 ft. lbs. (22-35 Nm), and the lower mounting nuts and bolts to 51-72 ft. lbs. (70-100 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Remove the floor jack from the rear axle assembly.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle and remove the wheel blocks.
  12.
