Windshield Wiper Blade and Arm

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front

See Figure 1

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON without starting the engine. Operate the wipers so that they go through one full cycle, then turn the wipers OFF. Ensure that they stop in the park position (bottom-most position). Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2.  
  3. Measure and note the distance from the wiper arm to the top edge of the windshield bottom trim piece.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, remove the plastic wiper arm retaining nut cover from the wiper arm base.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wiper arm retaining nut.
  8.  
  9. Pull the wiper arm off of the wiper linkage stud.
  10.

To install:
  1. Install the wiper arm on the linkage stud so that the blade is positioned the same distance from the top edge of the windshield bottom trim piece as when removed.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the wiper arm retaining nut to 177 inch lbs. (20 Nm).
  4.  
  5. If equipped, install the retaining nut cover.
  6.  

Rear

See Figure 4

Rear wipers were an option on hard-top Sidekick, Tracker and Sidekick Sport models only.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON without starting the engine. Operate the wiper arm so that it goes through one full cycle, then turn the wiper OFF. Ensure that it stops in the park position (vertical position). Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2.  
  3. Make a small matchmark on the rear window with a grease pencil to indicate where the wiper blade tip was positioned.
  4.  
  5. Remove the spare tire from the tire mounting bracket.
  6.  
  7. If equipped, remove the plastic wiper arm retaining nut cover from the wiper arm base.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wiper arm retaining nut.
  10.  
  11. Pull the wiper arm off of the wiper linkage stud.
  12.

To install:
  1. Slide the wiper arm onto the linkage stud so that the arm is aligned with the matchmark made earlier.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the wiper arm retaining nut to 177 inch lbs. (20 Nm).
  4.  
  5. If equipped, install the retaining nut cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the spare tire onto the mounting bracket.
  8.
