Hydraulic Control Module

Removal & Installation



Type 1
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using special tool (A): 09950-78220, disconnect brake pipes from ABS actuator (EBCM and BPMV) assembly.
    NOTE
    Put bleeder plug cap onto lines to prevent fluid from spilling. Do not allow brake fluid to get on painted surfaces.

  4.  
  5. Disconnect ABS actuator (EBCM and BPMV) assembly connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove bolt and take out ABS actuator (EBCM and BPMV) assembly from bracket.

  9. Install ABS actuator (EBCM and BPMV) assembly by reversing removal procedure.
  10.  
  11. Tighten brake line flare nuts to 12 ft. lbs. ( 16 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Tighten ABS actuator assembly bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Tighten ABS actuator assembly bracket bolt 8 ft. lbs. ( 10 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Bleed air from brake system.
  18.  
  19. Refill brake fluid.
  20.  
  21. Check each installed part for fluid leakage and perform hydraulic unit operation check.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
    It is recommended that entire hydraulic system be thoroughly flushed with clean brake fluid whenever new parts are installed in hydraulic system. Periodical change of brake fluid is also recommended.

Type 2
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Using special tool (A): 09950-78220, disconnect brake lines from ABS hydraulic unit/control module assembly.
    NOTE
    Put bleeder plug cap onto lines to prevent fluid from spilling. Do not allow brake fluid to get on painted surfaces.

  5. Disconnect ABS hydraulic unit/control module assembly connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove 3 nuts and take out ABS hydraulic unit/control module assembly from bracket.

  9. To install:

  11. Install ABS hydraulic unit/control module assembly.
  12.  
  13. Tighten mounting bracket bolts to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect ABS hydraulic unit/control module assembly connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove bleeder plug caps from brake lines.
  18.  
  19. Using special tool (A): 09950-78220, tighten brake lines to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Bleed air from brake system.
  22.  
  23. Refill brake fluid.
  24.  
  25. Check each installed part for fluid leakage and perform hydraulic unit operation check.
  26.  
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
    It is recommended that entire hydraulic system be thoroughly flushed with clean brake fluid whenever new parts are installed in hydraulic system. Periodical change of brake fluid is also recommended.

Grand Vitara-2006
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove Engine Control Module (ECM).
  4.  
  5. Disconnect ABS Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) control module connector.

  7. Using special tool (A): 09950-78220, loosen flare nuts and disconnect brake lines from ABS (ESP®) hydraulic unit/control module assembly.
    NOTE
    Put bleeder plug cap or the like onto pipe to prevent fluid from spilling. Do not allow brake fluid to get on painted surfaces.

  9. Disconnect harness clamps from bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove ABS (ESP®) hydraulic unit/control module with bracket from vehicle by removing bracket bolt and two bracket nuts.
  12.  
  13. Remove bolt and pull out ABS (ESP®) hydraulic unit/control module assembly from bracket using flat end rod or the like.

  15. Install hydraulic unit/control module assembly.
  16.  
  17. Tighten ABS (ESP®) hydraulic unit/control module bracket bolt and two bracket nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  19. Connect harness clamps to bracket.
  20.  
  21. Remove bleeder plug caps.
  22.  
  23. Reconnect brake lines and tighten 10mm nuts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm), and 12mm nuts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Reconnect ABS (ESP®) control module connector.
  26.  
  27. Install Engine Control Module (ECM).
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30.  
  31. Bleed air from brake system.
  32.  
  33. Check each installed part for fluid leakage.
    NOTE
    For new ABS (ESP®) hydraulic unit/control module assembly, if Hydraulic Unit Operation Check has not been performed, ABS warning lamp may flash when ignition switch is turned ON position. Accordingly perform Hydraulic Unit Operation Check to stop flashing of ABS warning lamp.


    NOTE
    It is recommended that entire hydraulic system be thoroughly flushed with clean brake fluid whenever new parts are installed in hydraulic system. Periodical change of brake fluid is also recommended.
