Wheel Speed Sensor Rotors (Toothed Rings)

Removal & Installation



Front

Tone ring is part of the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to front bearing removal and installation.

Rear

Tone ring is part of the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to rear bearing removal and installation.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove brake drum.
  8.  
  9. Remove rear axle shaft
  10.  
  11. In order to remove sensor rotor from retainer ring, grind with a grinder one part of the sensor rotor till it becomes thin.
    NOTE
    Cover the wheel bearing so that fine grains will not cause damage to the bearing. Use caution when grinding the sensor rotor not to damage the retainer ring.

  13. Break with a chisel the thin ground sensor rotor, and it can be removed.
    NOTE
    Use care not to cause any damage to outside of retainer ring.

  15. Press-fit sensor rotor to retainer ring.
  16.  
  17. Install rear axle shaft.
  18.  
  19. Install rear brake drum.
  20.  
  21. Install rear wheel.
  22.  
  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24.  
  25. Connect the negative battery cable.
