Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Run engine at idle with A/C ON for 10 minutes.
  4.  
  5. Recover refrigerant from the A/C system using recovery and recycling equipment.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect compressor clutch electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect suction hose and discharge hose from compressor.
  10.  
  11. For G16 engine remove compressor drive belt by loosening compressor mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. For J20 engine remove generator belt.
  14.  
  15. For H25 engine remove compressor drive belt by loosening tension pulley bolt.
  16.  
  17. Remove compressor with clutch assembly from its mount.
  18.  
  19. If compressor assembly is replaced. Drain oil from compressor, and measure its amount.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Refill new compressor with the same amount of oil that was measured from old compressor. Check to see if new compressor comes with oil charge. Use fresh clean oil only. Contaminated oil will cause system failure.
  2.  
  3. Install compressor for G16 engine as follows:

    Install compressor temporality to bracket, then install compressor drive belt.
     
    Connect suction and discharge hoses to compressor.
     
    Tension compressor drive belt by tightening compressor mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).

  5. Install compressor for J20 engine as follows:

    Install compressor to its bracket and tighten bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
     
    Connect suction and discharge hoses to compressor.
     
    Install generator belt .
     

  6.  
  7. Install compressor for H25 engine as follows:

    Install compressor to its bracket and tighten bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
     
    Connect suction and discharge hoses to compressor.
     
    Install compressor drive belt.
     

  8.  
  9. Tighten belts.
  10.  
  11. Reconnect compressor clutch electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Evacuate and charge A/C system any oil that may have been lost.
  16.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Run engine at idle with A/C ON for 10 minutes.
  4.  
  5. Recover refrigerant from the A/C system using recovery and recycling equipment.
  6.  
  7. Drain engine coolant.
  8.  
  9. Remove radiator inside hose and outside hose from vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove radiator cooling fan assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect compressor clutch electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect suction hose and discharge hose from compressor.
  18.  
  19. Remove compressor from its mount.
    NOTE
    The amount of compressor oil must be measured and the same amount must be added when installing a new compressor. Any oil lost must be replaced. Cap open fitting immediately to keep moisture out of system.

To install:

  1. Install A/C compressor and tighten mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Reconnect suction hose and discharge hose to compressor.
  4.  
  5. Reconnect compressor clutch electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Install drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Install radiator cooling fan assembly and secure.
  10.  
  11. Reconnect and tighten radiator inside and outside hose from vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Refill engine coolant and bleed system.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Vacuum and recharge system add any oil that may have been lost.
  18.
