Adjustment

  1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  2.
  3. Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If any defect exists, replace.
  4.
  5. Check belt for tension. If belt is too tight or too loose, adjust it to specification by adjusting alternator position.
    NOTE
On engines with an automatic tensioner make sure the tension indicator is within range and holds proper tension on the belt. If not replace drive belt.

  6.
  7. Tighten alternator adjusting bolt and pivot bolts.
  8.
  9. Connect negative cable to battery.
  10.

Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.
