Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the brake line.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper mounting bolts (guide pins) and remove the caliper from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the caliper on the vehicle. Tighten the mounting bolts as follows:

    Sidekick, X-90: 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
     
    Sidekick Sport: bottom bolt to 37 ft. lbs.; top bolt to 42 ft. lbs. (58 Nm)
     

  2.  
  3. Connect the hydraulic brake line, using 2 new washers. Torque the union bolt to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Replace the front wheels.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Fill the brake reservoir and bleed the hydraulic brake system.
  10.  

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the brake line.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper mounting bolts (guide pins) and remove the caliper from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the caliper on the vehicle. Tighten the mounting bolts as follows:

    Vitara: 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
     
    Grand Vitara: 10mm bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) and 12mm bolt to 62 ft. lbs. (84 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Connect the hydraulic brake line, using 2 new washers. Torque the union bolt to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Replace the front wheels.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Fill the brake reservoir and bleed the hydraulic brake system.
    NOTE
    It is recommended that entire hydraulic system be thoroughly flushed with clean brake fluid whenever new parts are installed in hydraulic system. Periodical change of brake fluid is also recommended.
