Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise vehicle and remove wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove suspension control arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove right side and left side front halfshafts.
  8.  
  9. Remove control links. When loosening joint nut, hold stud with hexagon wrench.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect steering lower shaft from pinion shaft.
  12.  
  13. Detach low pressure return hose from low pressure return pipe and then disconnect pipe bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove gear box union bolt.
  16.  
  17. Remove front propeller shaft (if equipped).
  18.  
  19. Fix radiator to body with rope to avoid the radiator from falling when front suspension frame is lowered.
  20.  
  21. Remove hood.
  22.  
  23. Support engine assemble by using chain hoist or engine support system.
  24.  
  25. Support suspension frame at the specified positions.
  26.  
  27. Remove engine front body side mounting nuts.
  28.  
  29. Remove suspension frame mounting bolts, and then lower suspension frame with stabilizer bar, P/S gear box assembly and front differential assembly (if equipped).
  30.  
  31. Remove P/S gear box assembly and front differential assembly (if equipped).
  32.  
  33. Remove stabilizer bar and bushing from suspension frame.

  35. When installing stabilizer, loosely assemble all components while insuring that stabilizer is centered, side-to-side.
  36.  
  37. Install stabilizer bar, stabilizer bushing and stabilizer mounting bracket to suspension frame.

To install:


NOTE
Install the stabilizer bar whose mark (5) is to front.

  1. Tighten stabilizer bar mounting bracket bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install P/S gear box assembly and front differential assembly (if equipped).
  4.  
  5. Install suspension frame.
  6.  
  7. Tighten suspension frame mounting bolts to 98 ft. lbs. (135 Nm). and engine front body side mounting nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Remove chain hoist or engine support system from engine.
  10.  
  11. Install hood.
  12.  
  13. Install front propeller shaft (if equipped).
  14.  
  15. Tighten pipe bracket bolts to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm) and then insert low pressure return hose to low pressure return pipe.
  16.  
  17. Tighten union gear box bolt to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Connect steering lower shaft from pinion shaft.
  20.  
  21. Install control link and tighten nuts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install right and left front halfshaft assembly (if equipped).
  24.  
  25. Install suspension control arm
  26.  
  27. Install engine under cover.
  28.  
  29. Install wheels and lower vehicle.
  30.  
  31. After installation, be sure to fill specified power steering fluid and bleed system.
