Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Before servicing disable air bag system.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disable air bag system.
  4.  
  5. Remove driver side instrument panel under cover and passenger side instrument panel under cover.

  7. Remove steering column hole cover.
  8.  
  9. Turn steering wheel to remove steering column cover screws.
  10.  
  11. Remove steering column covers.
  12.  
  13. Remove glove box.
  14.  
  15. Remove hood latch release lever.
  16.  
  17. Remove console box.
  18.  
  19. Remove front pillar trims front side sill scuffs and dash side trim.

  21. Disconnect instrument panel harness connectors, inside air temperature sensor duct and antenna cable instrument panel removal.

  23. Remove (HVAC) control cables (if equipped).
  24.  
  25. Remove steering column assembly
  26.  
  27. Remove instrument panel ground wire.
  28.  
  29. Remove instrument panel mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Remove instrument panel with steering support member and instrument panel harness.

To install:

  1. Install instrument panel with steering support member and instrument panel harness.
  2.  
  3. Install (HVAC) control cables (if removed).
  4.  
  5. Install instrument panel mounting bolts and tighten to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install steering column assembly and tighten mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Tighten upper steering column joint bolt to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
    NOTE
    Do not reuse steering upper shaft upper joint bolt and nut. Be sure to use new bolt and nut when installing.

  9. Reconnect instrument panel ground wire.
  10.  
  11. Reconnect instrument panel harness connectors, inside air temperature sensor duct and antenna cable instrument panel removal.
