Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Skidplate, if equipped
     
    Intermediate shaft pinch bolt
     
    Pitman arm center link joint
     
    Steering gearbox
     
    Pitman arm
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Pitman arm. Tighten the nut to 116 ft. lbs. (160 Nm).
     
    Steering gearbox. Tighten the bolts to 62 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
     
    Pitman arm center link joint. Tighten the nut to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Tighten it to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Skidplate, if equipped
     

  2.  
  3. Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Skidplate, if equipped
     
    Coolant overflow tank
     
    Intermediate shaft pinch bolt
     
    Power steering hoses
     
    Pitman arm center link joint
     
    Steering gearbox
     
    Pitman arm
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Pitman arm. Tighten the nut to 102 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
     
    Steering gearbox. Tighten the bolts to 62 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
     
    Pitman arm center link joint. Tighten the nut to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Power steering hoses
     
    Intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Tighten it to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Coolant overflow tank
     
    Skidplate, if equipped
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the power steering system.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.
  8.
