Door Glass And Regulator

Removal & Installation



Front Doors

Specific to:

Toyota Tercel 1995-1996

  1. Remove the door trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the water deflector shield and lower the window glass fully.
  4.  
  5. Remove the speaker.
  6.  
  7. Remove the service hole cover:
    1. Remove the 2 grommets. Bring out the links though the service hole cover.
    2.  

  8.  
  9. Remove the door belt molding;
    1. Pry out the clips from the edge of the weatherstrip, and remove the weatherstrip.

  11. Remove the door glass run.
  12.  
  13. Carefully remove the glass through the top of the door.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front lower frame.
  16.  
  17. Remove the window regulator, as follows:
    1. Using a hammer, tap out the mandril from the inside of the outside of the vehicle.

    3. Using a drill with a bit smaller than 0.28 in. (6.8mm), drill out the rivet heads and remove the window regulator.
      NOTE
      Do not drill the door inner hole.

    5. Remove the regulator through the service hole.
    6.  
    7. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the drilled rivets and accompanying dust from the inside of the door.

To install:

  1. Before installing, apply a suitable multi-purpose grease to the sliding surface and gears of the window regulator.

  3. Using an air riveter, strike rivets into the door frame to Install the window regulator to the door frame.
    WARNING
    If the rivet is not positioned perpendicularly, it will bend the mandrel. When the trigger is pulled, it may damage the air riveter.


    CAUTION
    To avoid personal injury and shorting of the wiring when installing rivets keep your hands and wire harness out of the (20 mm) radius that caulked rivet will cover.

  5. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following steps.

  7. Install the window glass, then Install the window mounting nuts/bolts.
  8.  
  9. Wind the window slowly up and down and observe its movement and alignment. The position of the glass can be adjusted by moving the equalizing arm bracket up or down.
  10.  
  11. Install the outer weatherstrip using new clips.
  12.  
  13. Install the access panel and water deflector, making sure it is intact and properly sealed.
  14.  
  15. Install the door trim panel.

Rear Doors

Specific to:

Toyota Tercel 1995-1996

  1. For vehicles with manual windows, remove the window regulator (crank) handle as follows:
    1. Pull off the regulator handle snap ring with a shop rag, then remove the handle and plate.

  3. Remove the door inside handle, as follows:
    1. Remove the screw and slide the inside handle forward.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the inside handle from the control link and remove the inside handle.

  5. Remove the armrest cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the door trim by prying between the retainers with a small prybar (tape the tip before use). On some models it may be necessary to remove the inner weatherstrip on the bottom of the door before removing the trim panel. remove the it by prying between the weatherstrip and the door panel.

  9. Remove the water deflector shield and lower the window glass fully.
  10.  
  11. Remove the speaker.
  12.  
  13. Remove the door belt molding:
    1. Pry out the clips from the edge of the weatherstrip and remove the it.

  15. Remove the service hole cover:
    1. Remove the 2 grommets. Bring out the links though the service hole cover.

  17. Remove the door glass and door glass run:
    1. Disconnect the glass from the regulator arm and remove the glass by pulling it upward.
      NOTE
      Insert a shop rag or towel inside the panel to prevent scratching the glass.

  19. Remove the quarter window glass with weatherstrip.
  20.  
  21. Remove the window regulator, as follows:
    1. Using a hammer, tap out the mandril from the inside of the outside of the vehicle.

To install:


NOTE
Before installing, apply a suitable multi-purpose grease to the sliding surface and gears of the window regulator. Do NOT apply grease to the spring of the window regulator.
