Removal & Installation




CAUTION
On models equipped with an air bag (SRS), work must NOT be started until at least 90 seconds have passed from the time that both the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative cable is disconnected from the battery.

  1. Remove the front pillar garnishes.
  2.  
  3. Remove the cowl side trims.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front door scuff plates
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering wheel as outlined in the Steering Section.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower instrument cover, as follows:
    1. Remove the 2 screws and the hood lock release lever.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 hole covers.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 4 bolts and the lower cover.

  11. Remove the instrument panel lower pad.
  12.  
  13. Remove the center upper cluster finish panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering column covers.
  16.  
  17. Remove the combination switch.
  18.  
  19. Remove the combination meter.
  20.  
  21. Remove the lower instrument finish panel, as follows:
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and 3 screws.
    2.  
    3. Remove the instrument finish panel by pulling.

  23. Disconnect front passenger airbag assembly connector, as follows:
    NOTE
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage The airbag wire harness.

    1. Disconnect the front passenger airbag assembly connector.

  25. Remove the shifting hole bezel.

  27. Remove the console box.

  29. Remove the lower center finish panel.

  31. Remove the center cluster finish panel.

  33. Remove the ash receptacle box.

  35. Remove the radio assembly.

  37. Remove the heater control panel as outlined in the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Section.

  39. Remove the junction block NO.1:
    1. Remove the 3 screws and J/B No.1.

  41. Remove the No. 2 heater to register duct:
    1. Remove the clip and the duct.

    NOTE
    Tape the prytool tip before use.

    1. Using a suitable prytool, carefully remove the clock then disconnect the connector.

  45. Remove the steering column as outlined in the Steering Section.

    1. Pull the air duct up to remove the it.

    1. Remove the 4 bolts nuts and the instrument panel.

  55. Remove the instrument panel brace No.2

  57. Remove the instrument panel reinforcement
    1. Remove the clutch return spring.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 3 bolts, 6 nuts and instrument panel reinforcement.
      NOTE
      If necessary, perform the following steps to disassemble the instrument panel.

  59. Remove the defroster nozzle.

  61. Remove the No. 3 heater to register duct.
  62.  
  63. Remove the No. 1 heater to register duct.
  64.  
  65. Remove the No. 1 register.
  66.  
  67. Remove the No. 3 register.

  69. Remove the No. 2 register.
  70.  
  71. Remove the front passenger airbag assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and the front passenger airbag assembly.
    2.  
    3. Remove the airbag door.
      CAUTION
      Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag deployment side facing down.


      CAUTION
      Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly.

To install:

  1. If disassembled, reassemble the instrument panel using the reverse of the disassembly steps.
    WARNING
    When installing the instrument panel, make sure the airbag wire harness does not interfere with other parts, and is not pinched between other parts.


    NOTE
    When installing the instrument panel box, carefully pull out the airbag wire harness from the glove compartment upper hole.

  3. Install the instrument panel reinforcement
    1. Install the instrument panel reinforcement with the 3 bolts and 6 nuts.
    2.

  5. Install the following parts:
    1. Instrument panel brace No.2
    2.  
    3. Instrument panel brace No.1
    4.  
    5. Center heater to register duct.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Install the instrument panel:
    1. Install the instrument panel with the bolts and nuts.
      NOTE
      When installing the instrument panel, take care that the airbag wire harness does not interfere with other parts and is Not pinched between other parts.

  9. Install the air duct
  10.  
  11. Install the steering column as outlined in the Steering Section.
  12.  
  13. Install the clock
    1. Connect the connector, then Install the clock.
    2.

  15. Install the NO.2 heater to register duct
    1. Install the no.2 heater to register duct with the clip.
    2.

  17. Install the junction block NO.1
    1. Install the J/B No.1 with the 3 screws.
    2.

  19. Install the following parts:
    1. Heater control panel as outlined in the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Section.
    2.  
    3. Radio assembly
    4.  
    5. Ash receptacle box
    6.  
    7. Center cluster finish panel
    8.  
    9. Lower center finish panel
    10.  
    11. Console box
    12.  
    13. Shifting hole bezel
      NOTE
      When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  21. Connect the front passenger airbag assembly connector.

  23. Install the lower instrument finish panel
    1. Install the instrument finish panel with the 4 bolts and 3 screws.

  25. Install the following parts:
    1. Combination meter

    3. Combination switch
    4.  
    5. Steering column covers
    6.  
    7. Center upper cluster finish panel
    8.  
    9. Instrument panel lower pad insert
    10.

  27. Install the lower instrument cover
    1. Install the hood lock release lever through the lower instrument cover.
    2.  
    3. Install the lower instrument cover with the 4 bolts.
    4.  
    5. Install the 2 hole covers.
    6.  
    7. Install the hood lock release lever with the 2 screws.
    8.

  29. Install the steering wheel as outlined in the Steering Section.

  31. Install the following parts:
    1. Front door scuff plates
    2.  
    3. Cowl side trims
    4.  
    5. Front pillar garnishes
