Removal & Installation



  1. Remove these parts:
    1. Front pillar garnishes
    2.  
    3. Cowl side trims
    4.  
    5. Front door scuff plates
    6.  

  2.  
  3. Remove steering wheel as outlined in the Steering Section.
  4.  
  5. Remove lower instrument cover
    1. Remove the 2 screws and the hood lock release lever.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 hole covers.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 4 bolts and the lower cover.

  7. Remove the following parts:
    1. Instrument panel lower pad insert
    2.  
    3. Center upper cluster finish panel
    4.  
    5. Steering column covers
    6.  
    7. Combination switch
    8.  
    9. Combination meter
    10.

  9. Remove lower instrument finish panel
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and 3 screws.
    2.  
    3. Remove the instrument finish panel by pulling.

  11. Disconnect front passenger airbag assembly connector
    NOTE
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage The airbag wire harness.

    1. Disconnect the front passenger airbag assembly connector.

  13. Remove front passenger airbag assembly
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and the front passenger airbag assembly.
      CAUTION
      Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag deployment side facing down.


      CAUTION
      Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly.

  15. Remove the following parts:
    1. Shifting hole bezel
    2.  
    3. Console box
    4.  
    5. Lower center finish panel
    6.  
    7. Center cluster finish panel
    8.  
    9. Ash receptacle box
    10.  
    11. Radio assembly
    12.  
    13. Heater control panel as outlined in the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Section.

  17. Remove junction block NO.1
    1. Remove the 3 screws and J/B No.1.

  19. Remove No. 2 heater to register duct
    1. Remove the clip and the duct.

  21. Remove clock
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the clock then disconnect the connector.
      NOTE
      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  23. Remove steering column as outlined in the Steering Section.

  25. Remove air duct
    1. Pull the air duct up to remove it.

  27. Remove instrument panel
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and the instrument panel.

  29. Remove EFI ECU
    1. Remove the nut, screw and EFI ECU.
    2.

  31. Remove ABS ECU
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and ABS ECU.
    2.

  33. Remove these parts:
    1. Center heater to register duct
    2.  
    3. Instrument panel brace No.1
    4.  
    5. Instrument panel brace No.2
    6.

  35. Remove instrument panel reinforcement
    1. Remove the clutch return spring.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 3 bolts, 6 nuts and instrument panel reinforcement.
    4.

To install:

  1. Install instrument panel reinforcement
    1. Install the instrument panel reinforcement with the 3 bolts and 6 nuts.
    2.

  3. Install the following parts:
    1. Instrument panel brace No.2
    2.  
    3. Instrument panel brace No.1
    4.  
    5. Center heater to register duct.
    6.

  5. Install ABS ECU
    1. Install the ABS ECU with the 2 nuts to the instrument panel reinforcement.
    2.  

  6.  
  7. Install EFI ECU
    1. Install the EFI ECU with the nut and screw to the instrument reinforcement.
    2.

  9. Install instrument panel
    1. Install the instrument panel with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
      NOTE
      When installing the instrument panel, take care that the airbag wire harness does not interfere with other parts and is Not pinched between other parts.

  11. Install the air duct
  12.  
  13. Install the steering column as outlined in the Steering Section.
  14.  
  15. Install clock
    1. Connect the connector, then install the clock.
    2.

  17. Install NO.2 heater to register duct
    1. Install the no.2 heater to register duct with the clip.
    2.

  19. Install junction block NO.1
    1. Install the J/B No.1 with the 3 screws.
    2.

  21. Install the following parts:
    1. Heater control panel as outlined in the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Section.
    2.  
    3. Radio assembly
    4.  
    5. Ash receptacle box
    6.  
    7. Center cluster finish panel
    8.  
    9. Lower center finish panel
    10.  
    11. Console box
    12.  
    13. Shifting hole bezel
    14.

  23. Install front passenger airbag assembly
    1. Install the front passenger airbag assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lb. (20 Nm).
      NOTE
      When installing the instrument panel box, carefully pull out the airbag wire harness from the glove compartment upper hole.

  25. Install front passenger airbag assembly connector
    NOTE
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    1. Connect the front passenger airbag assembly connector.
    2.

  27. Install lower instrument finish panel
    1. Install the instrument finish panel with the 4 bolts and 3 screws.
    2.

  29. Install the following parts:
    1. Combination meter
    2.  
    3. Combination switch
    4.  
    5. Steering column covers
    6.  
    7. Center upper cluster finish panel
    8.  
    9. Instrument panel lower pad insert
    10.

  31. Install lower instrument cover
    1. Install the hood lock release lever through the lower instrument cover.
    2.  
    3. Install the lower instrument cover with the 4 bolts.
    4.  
    5. Install 2 hole covers.
    6.  
    7. Install the hood lock release lever with the 2 screws.
    8.

  33. Install steering wheel as outlined in the Steering Section.

  35. Install the following parts:
    1. Front door scuff plates
    2.  
    3. Cowl side trims
    4.  
    5. Front pillar garnishes
    6.
