Quarter Window

Specific to:

Toyota Tercel 1995-1996

  1. Remove the rear seat cushion.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear seatback.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front seat outer belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the package tray trim side cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear seat outer belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the quarter trim board.

  13. Remove the front door scuff plate.

  17. Remove the quarter window glass, as follows:
    1. Push piano wire through between body and glass from the interior.
    2.  
    3. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar object.
      NOTE
      Apply adhesive tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched.


      NOTE
      When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint and exterior.

    5. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.
      NOTE
      Cut the adhesive areas as shown in the illustration, leaving the adhesive where the pins are.

    7. Using piano wire, as shown in the illustration, cut off the rest of the adhesive.

    9. Remove the glass.
      NOTE
      Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.

To install:

  1. Clean and shape contact surface of body, as follows:
    1. Using a knife, cut away any rough areas on the body.
      NOTE
      Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible.

    3. Clean the cutting surface of the adhesive with a piece of shop rag saturated in cleaner.
      NOTE
      Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the body.

  3. Clean removed glass before installation:
    1. Using a scraper, remove the adhesive sticking to the glass.
    2.  
    3. Clean the glass with cleaner.
      NOTE
      Do not touch the glass after cleaning it.

  5. Using a brush, coat contact surface of body with primer -M-.
    NOTE
    Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.


    NOTE
    Do not coat primer m to the adhesive.

    1. Do not keep any of the opened primer M for later use.

  7. Coat contact surface of glass with primer -G-:
    1. Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface with primer g.
    2.  
    3. Wipe it off with a clean shop rag before the primer dries.
      NOTE
      Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.


      NOTE
      Do not keep any of the opened primer g for later use.

  9. Mix adhesive coating:
    NOTE
    Be sure that installation of the molding is finished within the adhesive-s usable time.

    1. Thoroughly clean the glass plate and putty spatula with solvent.
    2.  
    3. Thoroughly mix 500 g (17.64 oz.) of the main agent and 75 g (2.65 oz.) of the hardening agent on a glass plate or similar object with a putty spatula.

  11. Apply adhesive, as follows:
    1. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle. Fill the cartridge with adhesive.
    2.  
    3. Load the cartridge into the sealer gun.
    4.  
    5. Coat the glass with adhesive, as shown. H: 12 mm (0.47 in.).

  13. Install the quarter window glass, as follows:
    1. Install the glass to the body.
    2.  
    3. Use adhesive tape to keep the glass tight against the body.
    4.

  15. Inspect for leaks and repair, as necessary:
    1. Perform a leak test after the hardening time has elapsed.
    2.  
    3. Seal any leak with a suitable sealant. (Part No.08833-00030 or equivalent)
    4.

  17. Install the roof side inner garnish

  19. Install the front door scuff plate
  20.  
  21. Install the quarter trim board
  22.  
  23. Install the rear seat outer belt and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Install the package tray trim side cover.
  26.  
  27. Install the front seat outer belt and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  28.  
  29. Install the rear seat belt and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  30.  
  31. Install the rear seat cushion

Rear Window

Specific to:

Toyota Tercel 1995-1996

  1. Disconnect the defogger electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear seat cushion and seatback.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear seat belt
  6.  
  7. Remove the front door scuff plate
  8.  
  9. Remove the quarter trim board
  10.  
  11. Remove the front seat belt
  12.  
  13. Remove the high mounted stop light
  14.  
  15. Remove the package tray garnish
  16.  
  17. Remove the back window molding, as follows:
    1. Using a knife, cut the molding off the body.
      WARNING
      Do not damage the body with the knife.


      NOTE
      The back window glass is removed in the same manner as the windshield.

  19. Remove the back window glass, as follows:
    1. Push piano wire through from the interior. Tie both ends of the wire to wooden blocks. Apply adhesive tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched.
      NOTE
      When cutting, take care not to damage the paint and interior/exterior ornaments. To prevent scratching the dash panel when removing the windshield, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and dash panel.

    3. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it. Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.

    5. With the help of an assistant, remove the glass.

To install:

  1. Clean the shape the contact surface of the body:
    1. Cut away any rough areas of the urethane layer on the body with a knife. Clean the contact surface with alcohol.
      NOTE
      Leave as much urethane on the body as possible.

    3. Clean the cutting surface of the urethane gum with a piece of shop rag saturated in suitable cleaner. Even if all the urethane has been removed, clean the body.

  3. Clean the removed glass before installation:
    1. Using a scraper, clean any remaining gum from the glass. Clean the surface with a suitable cleaner. Do not touch the glass after it has been cleaned!

  5. With the help of an assistant, carefully place the glass in position:
    1. Check that all contacting parts of the glass rim are perfectly even.
    2.  
    3. Place reference marks between the glass and body, then remove the glass.

  7. Once again, clean the contact surface of the glass with a suitable cleaner. Do not touch the glass after cleaning it.

  9. Using a brush, coat the contact surface of the body with primer -M- and note the following:
    1. Let the primer coating dry for a minimum of 3 minutes.
    2.  
    3. Do not coat Primer M to the adhesive.
    4.  
    5. Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.
    6.

  11. Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface Primer -G-. Wipe if off with a clean shop rag before the primer dries and note the following:
    1. Let the primer coating dry for a minimum of 3 minutes.
    2.  
    3. Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.

  13. Mix the adhesive coating, as follows:
    NOTE
    Make sure installation of the glass is finished within the usable time. The mixture should be made in 5 minutes or less.

    1. Thoroughly clean the glass plate and putty spatula with solvent.
    2.  
    3. Thoroughly mix 500 g (17.64 oz.) of the main agent and 2.65 oz. (75 g) of the hardening agent on a glass plate or like object with a putty spatula.
    4.

  15. Apply adhesive, as follows:
    1. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle to make a hole 0.020 in. (5mm) in diameter. Fill the cartridge with adhesive.
    2.  
    3. Load the cartridge into the sealer gun.
    4.

  17. Coat the glass with adhesive on all contact surfaces along the ridge. Note the following:
    1. Adhesive height if adhesive remains on the body: 0.138-0.197 in. (3.5-5.0mm)
    2.  
    3. Adhesive height if NO adhesive remains on the body: 0.31-0.39 in. (8-10mm)

  19. Install the rear window, as follows:
    1. With an assistant, position the glass so the reference marks are lined up, then press in gently around the rim of the contact areas to seat the glass.
    2.  
    3. Using a spatula, apply adhesive around the glass rim.
    4.  
    5. Use the spatula to remove the any excess or protruding adhesive.
    6.  
    7. Fasten the glass securely until the adhesive sets.
    8.

  21. After the adhesive has hardened, water test the rear window for leaks. Seal any leaks with a suitable adhesive or auto glass sealer.

  23. Install the back window molding by placing the molding onto the body and tap it by hand.

  27. Install the package tray garnish.

  29. Install the high mounted stop light.
  30.  
  31. Install the front seat outer belt. Tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).

  33. Install the quarter trim board.
  34.  
  35. Install the front door scuff plate.
  36.  
  37. Install the rear seat outer belt and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  38.  
  39. Install the rear seatback and tighten retainers to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  40.  
  41. Install the rear seat cushion
  42.  
  43. Connect the defogger electrical connector.
