Timing Chain & Sprockets

Removal & Installation



3.3L & 3.8L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  4.  
  5. Remove the timing chain cover. Refer to Timing Chain Cover and Seal, removal & installation.
  6.  
  7. Rotate the engine by turning the crankshaft until the timing marks are aligned (4).

  9. Remove the camshaft sprocket attaching bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the timing chain with the camshaft sprocket.
  12.  
  13. Using Special Tools 8539, 5048-6, and 5048-1, remove the crankshaft sprocket (4) while holding the crankshaft from turning. Be careful not to damage the crankshaft surfaces.

To install:

  1. Position the crankshaft sprocket on the crankshaft (timing mark out) with the timing slot aligned with the timing pin.
  2.  
  3. Install the crankshaft sprocket using Special Tool 8452 (1). Press in the crankshaft sprocket (3) until it fully seats on the crankshaft.
