These models utilize a hub/bearing assembly which is not adjustable.

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Dodge Grand Caravan 2008-2009

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. With the aid of a helper applying the brakes to keep the front hub from turning, remove the hub nut from the axle halfshaft stub shaft.

  9. Remove the front brake rotor. Refer to Front Disc Brakes, Rotor, removal & installation.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screws fastening the brake shield to the knuckle, then remove the brake shield.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from the wheel speed sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Unclip the wheel speed sensor connector from the bracket on the frame rail.
  16.  
  17. Remove the screw fastening the wheel speed sensor routing bracket to the mounting flange on the strut.
  18.  
  19. Remove the screw fastening the wheel speed sensor routing bracket to the knuckle.
  20.  
  21. Push in on the end of the halfshaft (3) stub shaft, pushing its splines out of the hub splines.
  22.  
  23. Remove the 4 hub and bearing mounting bolts (2) from the rear of the steering knuckle (1).
  24.  
  25. Remove the hub and bearing with the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle.

To install:


NOTE
The hub and bearing mounting surfaces on the knuckle and the stub shaft (2) must be smooth and completely free of foreign material or nicks prior to installing the hub and bearing assembly.

  1. Make sure the isolation washer (1) is located on the halfshaft stub shaft (2). The washer is bi-directional, and can be installed in either direction.
  2.  
  3. Install the hub and bearing (3) onto the halfshaft stub shaft (2) and into the knuckle until it is squarely seated on the face of the knuckle. Make sure the wheel speed sensor is positioned toward the rear of the vehicle.

  5. Install the 4 hub and bearing mounting bolts (2) from the rear of the knuckle (1). Progressively and equally tighten all 4 mounting bolts using a crisscross pattern. Tighten the mounting bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the wheel speed sensor routing bracket to the knuckle. Install and tighten the screw to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Attach the wheel speed sensor routing bracket to the mounting flange on the strut assembly. Install and tighten the screw to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Clip the wheel speed sensor connector and routing clip to the bracket on the frame rail.
  12.  
  13. Connect the vehicle wiring harness to the wheel speed sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Install the brake shield on the knuckle. Install and tighten the 3 mounting screws to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the brake rotor, then install the disc brake caliper and adapter assembly. Refer to Front Disc Brakes, Rotor, removal & installation.
  18.  
  19. Verify that the wheel speed sensor is routed properly. Do not allow the cable to come into contact with any moving parts.
  20.  
  21. Install the hub nut on the end of the halfshaft stub shaft. With the aid of a helper applying the brakes to keep the front hub from turning, tighten the hub nut to 118 ft. lbs. (160 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten the wheel mounting nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26.  
  27. Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the vehicle has a firm brake pedal before moving the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Check and adjust the brake fluid level, as necessary.
  30.  
  31. Perform a wheel alignment.
