Wiper Motor

The front wiper motor comes as a unit with a wiper pivot on each end and mounts to a shaft that holds these 2 inner pivots.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wiper arms.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the washer hose at the in-line connector located near the air cleaner housing.
  8.  
  9. Lift the cowl grille and disconnect the washer hose grommet from the hole in the wiper module.
  10.  
  11. Pull the washer hose and the grommet completely through the wiper module tub hole.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cowl grille.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to scratch the cowl grille on the corner of the hood.

  15. Remove the 4 brace nuts holding the wiper tub to the lower windshield fence.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 bolts underneath the wiper tub inner brace holding the tub to the bulkhead.
  18.  
  19. Remove all 4 inner support brace mounting nuts and pull the inner braces just free of the mounting studs.
    NOTE
    The wiper tub will drop down slightly.

  21. Disconnect the driver and passenger side wiper link ends at the inner pivots.
  22.  
  23. Remove the 2 left wiper motor assembly mounting nuts.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 2 right wiper motor assembly mounting nuts.
  26.  
  27. Partially lift the wiper motor assembly out of the wiper tub.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.
  30.  
  31. Remove the wiper motor assembly the rest of the way from the wiper tub and remove from it from the vehicle.
  32.  

To install:

  1. Install the front wiper motor assembly onto the wiper tub.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the front wiper motor assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the 4 mounting nuts and tighten nuts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Push the 4 inner support braces onto the studs and install the 4 nuts. Tighten the nuts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the 4 bolts underneath the wiper tub inner braces that hold the wiper tub to the bulkhead. Tighten the bolts to 150 inch lbs. (17 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the 4 nuts holding the wiper tub to the lower windshield fence line. Tighten the nuts to 65 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Apply grease to the drive link bushings.
    NOTE
    Make sure to use MOPAR® approved grease.

  15. Attach the driver and passenger side outer wiper linkage to the inner pivots on the front motor assembly and firmly snap them into place.
    WARNING
    Do not apply too much force to engage the link bushing or damage can occur to the drive link bushing.

  17. Position the cowl grille in place.
  18.  
  19. Install the washer hose and grommet into the wiper tub.
    NOTE
    Be sure to properly seat the washer hose grommet into the bottom of the wiper tub.

  21. Connect the washer hose at the in-line connector located by the air cleaner housing.
  22.  
  23. Install the cowl grille.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to scratch the cowl grille on the corner of the hood.

  25. Connect the battery negative cable.
  26.  
  27. Verify that the wiper motor is in the Park position by cycling the wiper system. When done, remove the keys from the ignition.
  28.  
  29. Install the wiper arms.
  30.  
  31. Align the wiper arms and tighten the nuts to 25 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  32.  
  33. Install the wiper arm nut caps.
