Removal & Installation

  1. Run the engine at idle for approximately 10 minutes with the A/C on.
  2.  
  3. Stop the engine and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  6.  
  7. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the engine under.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the discharge and suction hose from the compressor.
    NOTE
    Cap the open fitting immediately to keep moisture and dirt out of the system.

  13. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the A/C compressor.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the compressor and tighten the four mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Connect the electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Install new O-rings, lubricated with compressor oil to the hoses. Connect the discharge and suction hoses to the compressor. Tighten the hose bolts to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the A/C compressor drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Install the engine under cover.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle and connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Evacuate and charge the air conditioning system.
  12.  
  13. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  14.  

  1. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with the 4.0L (1GR-FE) Engine, remove the engine under cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nut and disconnect the discharge hose from the compressor. Remove the O-ring from the discharge hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nut and disconnect the suction hose from the compressor. Remove the O-ring from the suction hose.
    NOTE
    Seal the opening of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and dirt from entering the system.

  13. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the compressor and tighten the four mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm). Connect the electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Remove the attached vinyl tape from the hose. Lubricate a new O-ring with compressor oil and the fitting surface of the compressor. Install the O-ring on the suction hose, then install the hose to the compressor. Tighten the bolt to 87 inch lbs. (9.8 Nm). Repeat the same process for the discharge hose.

  5. Install the accessory drive belt. Install the engine undercover, if removed.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Evacuate and charge the air conditioning system.
  10.  
  11. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
