Crankshaft Damper (Balancer)

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt(s).
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  8.  
  9. Remove the engine fan with the fan shroud.
  10.  
  11. Install Special Tool 09213-54015 holding tool to the crankshaft pulley, and use Special Tool 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft pulley. Loosen the pulley bolt. Remove the special tools, pulley bolt and pulley.
  12.  
  13. If necessary, you may need to use a suitable puller to remove the crankshaft pulley. Insert a service bolt in place of the pulley bolt and install Special Tool 09950-50013 puller set to remove the crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Align the pulley set key with the key groove of the pulley, then slide the pulley into position.
  2.  
  3. Using the holding tool, hold the crankshaft pulley and install the bolt. Tighten the crankshaft pulley as follows:
    1. 3.4L (5VZ-FE) Engine: 217 ft. lbs. (300 Nm).

    3. 4.0L (1GR-FE) Engine: 184 ft. lbs. (250 Nm).

    5. 4.7L (2UZ-FE) Engine: 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).

  5. Install the engine fan with the fan shroud.
  6.  
  7. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  8.  
  9. Install the accessory drive belt(s).
  10.  
  11. Refill the cooling system to the correct level.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Start the engine and check for leaks.
