Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Using a suitable jack, raise and support the rear axle housing. Support the frame with a suitable jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the ABS speed sensor wire from the upper control arm.
  4.  
  5. Remove the nut, washer and bolt holding the upper control arm to the frame. Remove the nut, washer and bolt holding the upper control arm to the rear axle housing. Remove the upper control arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut and bolt holding the lower control arm to the frame. Remove the nut, washer and bolt holding the lower control arm to the rear axle housing. Remove the lower control arm.

To install:

  1. Install the lower control arm and install the bolts, but do not fully tighten at this time.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper control arm and install the bolts, but do not fully tighten at this time.
  4.  
  5. Connect the ABS speed sensor wire to the upper control arm.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle and stabilize the suspension. Fully the tighten the lower control arm mounting bolts to 107 ft. lbs. (145 Nm). Tighten the upper control arm bolts to 64 ft. lbs. (86 Nm).

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheel.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with air suspension, disconnect the connector from the height control sensor. Place matchmarks on the link and bracket. Remove the nut and disconnect the sensor link. Remove the two bolts and height control sensor.

  5. Remove the bolts, washers and upper control arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt and separate the parking brake cable from the lower control arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nut, washer and mounting bolt and remove the lower control arm.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the lower control arm with the bolt, washer and nut. Do not fully tighten the bolt at this time.
  2.  
  3. Connect the parking brake cable to the lower control arm. Tighten the bolt to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the upper control with the bolt, washer and nut. Do not fully tighten the bolt at this time.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with air suspension, install the height control sensor with the two bolts and tighten to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm). Align the matchmarks on the link and the bracket. Connect the sensor link with the nut and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm). Connect the connector to the height control sensor.

  9. Lower the vehicle and stabilize the suspension. Fully the tighten the lower control arm mounting bolts to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm). Tighten the upper control arm bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
