Park/Neutral Position Switch Circuit Malfunction

Possible Causes:



P/N switch is shorted to ground or wiring harness is shorted
 
P/N switch is out-of-adjustment, damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

Mass Airflow Sensor Signal Range/Performance

Possible Causes:



MAF sensor signal circuit is open, shorted to ground or power
 
MAF sensor is contaminated, damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0172



Fuel System Too Rich (Bank 1)

Possible Causes:



A/FS or HO2S is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed
 
Base engine "mechanical" fault affecting one or more cylinders
 
EVAP system component has failed or canister fuel saturated
 
Exhaust leaks located in front of the A/FS or HO2S location
 
Fuel control sensor is out of calibration (i.e., ECT, IAT or MAF)
 
Fuel delivery system supplying too much fuel during cruise or idle periods (e.g., faulty fuel pump, or faulty pressure regulator)
 
Fuel injector(s) is leaking or stuck partiAlly open (one or more)

Excessive EGR Flow Detected

Possible Causes:



EGR gas temperature sensor circuit open or shorted to ground
 
EGR gas temperature sensor is damaged or has failed
 
EGR Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) is damaged or has failed
 
EGR valve stuck partiAlly or EGR valve stuck fully open
 
EGR VSV control circuit is open or shorted to system power
 
PCM has failed

EVAP Control System Large Leak (0.080") Detected

Possible Causes:



Charcoal canister is clogged, loaded with fuel or with moisture
 
Fuel filler cap missing, loose (not tightened) or the wrong part
 
Fuel tank over-fill check valve cracked or damaged
 
Fuel tank seal leaking, fuel tank cracked or damaged/leaking
 
Fuel vapor hoses/tubes blocked or restricted, or fuel vapor control valve tube or fuel vapor vent valve assembly blocked
 
Vacuum hose or tubing cracked, damaged or disconnected
 
Vapor Pressure sensor incorrectly instAlled
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0442



EVAP System SmAll Leak (0.040") Detected

Possible Causes:



Canister Purge valve is damaged, leaking or has failed
 
Charcoal canister is loaded with fuel or moisture
 
Fuel filler cap loose, cross-threaded, incorrect part or damaged
 
Fuel tank is cracked (leaking), or a leak exists in the 'O' ring
 
Fuel tank pressure sensor is damaged or has failed
 
Fuel vapor line(s), fuel pipes or hoses damaged or leaking
 
PCM has failed

A/F Sensor-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Slow Response

Possible Causes:



A/F sensor signal circuit or ground circuit is open
 
A/F sensor power circuit is open
 
A/F sensor is contaminated, damaged or has failed
 
Intake air leaks, exhaust manifold leaks or PCV system leaks
 
MAF sensor out of calibration (it may be dirty or contaminated)
 
PCM has failed
