Fig. Fig. 4: The rear speed sensor is attached to the back of the rear hub

  1. Remove the rear seat cushion. Disconnect the sensor cable wiring; feed the sensor cable through the grommet.
  2.
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Remove the wheel and tire.
  6.
  7. Remove the clips and retainers holding the sensor cable to the body and suspension arm. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.
  8.

To install:
  1. Place the speed sensor into position on the axle carrier. Tighten the mounting bolt to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.
  3. Feed the harness connector through to the interior and connect the harnesses together.
  4.
  5. Install the grommet securely. Install the sensor harness with clamps and bolts and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  6.

4WD Vehicle
  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor lead from the ABS harness. Remove any retaining bolts or clips holding the harness in place.

Clips and retainers must be reinstalled in their exact original location. Take careful note of the position of each retainer and of the correct harness routing during removal.

  1. Remove the single bolt holding the speed sensor.
  2.
  3. Carefully remove the sensor straight out of its mount. Do not subject the sensor to shock or vibration; protect the tip of the sensor at all times.
  4.

To install:
  1. Before installation, make certain all traces of paint are removed from the hub carrier surface. A clean metal-to-metal contact is required. Fit the sensor into position. Make certain the sensor sits flush against the mounting surface; it must not be crooked.
