  1. On gasoline engines, remove the six bolts and remove the oil seal retainer and gasket. Discard the gasket and purchase a new one. The V6 engines use sealant instead of a gasket.
  2.
  3. On diesel engines, remove the dust seal. Remove the five bolts and remove the oil seal retainer.
  4.
  5. Use a small prybar to pry the oil seal from the retaining plate. Be careful not to damage the plate.
  6.

To install:
  1. Clean the retainer contact surfaces thoroughly and lubricate the new oil seal with multi-purpose grease.
  2.
  3. Using a block of wood, drive the oil seal into the retainer until its surface is flush with the edge of the retainer. Make sure that the seal is installed evenly in the retainer to ensure proper sealing.
  4.
  5. On diesel engines and V6 gasoline engines, apply a 1 / 8 inch bead of sealant to the oil seal retainer. Bolt the retainer with the five bolts (V6) and install the dust seal. Tighten the bolts on the V6 to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
