REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1C-LTC and 2CL-TC Engines

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the PCV hose from the cylinder head cover.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the air cleaner hose from the turbocharger.
  6.  
  7. Unsecure the clips and remove the air cleaner hose with the air cleaner cover.
  8.

  1. Disconnect the turbocharger pressure hose to the compressor elbow.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the air intake hose from the intake manifold.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt attaching the compressor elbow stay to the engine hanger.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the two bolts and remove the compressor elbow with the relief valve and the air intake hose attached.
  8.  
  9. Unbolt and remove the turbocharger heat insulators.
  10.  
  11. Separate the exhaust pipe from the turbine elbow by removing the three nuts from the flange. Remove the gasket and replace it with a new one.
  12.  
  13. Remove the nuts from the turbocharger oil pipe flange.
  14.  
  15. Unsecure the four nuts and remove the turbocharger, turbocharger and flange gaskets from the exhaust manifold.
  16.  
  17. Cover the exhaust pipe with masking tape to prevent the entry of foreign material into the engine.
  18.  

To install:
  1. Remove the masking tape and thoroughly clean all the exhaust manifold and turbocharger flanges to remove any deposits of carbon or gasket material.
  2.  
  3. Place the new gasket so that the protrusion is on the opposite side of the cylinder head.
  4.  
  5. Carefully place the turbocharger, with a new oil pipe gasket into position on the exhaust manifold and oil pipe. Install the four nuts and tighten them to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pipe flange nuts and tighten them to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Place a new gasket on the exhaust pipe.
  10.  
  11. Attach the exhaust pipe to the turbine elbow and install the flange nuts. Tighten the nuts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the turbocharger heat insulators.
  14.  
  15. Using a new gasket, install the compressor elbow with the relief valve and air intake hose with the two bolts. Tighten the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Connect the compressor elbow stay to the engine hanger.
  18.  
  19. Connect the air intake hose to the intake manifold and tighten the hose clamp.
  20.  
  21. Connect the turbocharger pressure hose to the compressor elbow.
  22.  
  23. Install the air cleaner case cover and the air cleaner hose by securing the four clips.
  24.  
  25. Connect the air cleaner hose to the turbocharger and tighten the clamp.
  26.  
  27. Connect the PCV hose to the cylinder head cover.
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
  30.
