Fuel Pressure Regulator

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




CAUTION
Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do not allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.

2S-ELC and 3S-FE Engines

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose at the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the fuel return hose.
  4.  
  5. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the regulator.
  6.

  1. Reinstall in reverse order. Tighten the 2 retaining bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).

  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  

5S-FE Engine

See Figure 3

  1. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the vacuum hose at the fuel pressure regulator.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the fuel return pipe from the fuel pressure regulator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the fuel pressure regulator.
  8.

To install:
  1. Replace the O-ring, coating the new one with clean gasoline.
  2.  
  3. Install the pressure regulator. Tighten the retaining bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the fuel return line to the regulator. Replace the gaskets; tighten the union bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum hose and negative battery cable.
  8.  

2VZ-FE Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose at the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the fuel return hose.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the locknut and remove the fuel pressure regulator.
  6.  
  7. Before installation, fully loosen the locknut. Lightly coat a new O-ring with gasoline and install it on the regulator.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Press the regulator into the fuel delivery pipe by hand. Turn the pressure regulator so that the vacuum pipe is vertical.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the lock nut to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the fuel return hose and the vacuum hose. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  

3VZ-FE Engine
  1. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds from the time the negative battery was disconnected to start work.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nuts holding the V-bank cover and remove the cover.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose and the fuel return hose from the pressure regulator.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the locknut and remove the pressure regulator.
  8.  
  9. Before installation, fully loosen the locknut. Lightly coat a new O-ring with gasoline and install it on the regulator.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Press the regulator into the fuel delivery pipe by hand. Turn the pressure regulator counterclockwise so that the fuel return pipe is pointing towards the air intake chamber and the vacuum port points straight up.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the locknut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the fuel return hose. Install the vacuum hose.
  6.  
  7. Install the V-cover. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

1MZ-FE Engine

See Figures 4 and 5

  1. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the air assist hose form the intake manifold.
  4.  
  5. Disconnnect the vacuum sensing hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
  6.  
  7. Place a shop rag under the fuel return hose and disconnect the line from the pressure regulator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 bolts and pull out the pressure regulator. Remove the O-ring and discard.

To install:
  1. Apply a light coat of gasoline on the O-ring and place it on the pressure regulator.
  2.  
  3. Attach the pressure regulator to the delivery pipe.
  4.  
  5. Check the pressure regulator rotates smoothly.
  6.  

If the regulator does not rotate smoothly, the O-ring may be pinched, remove it, and repeat the installation steps.

  1. Instyall the pressure regulator and tighten the 2 bolts to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connec the fuel return line to the pressure regulator.
  4.  

Be sure to insert the hose up to the stopper and clip it.

  1. Connec the vacuum sensing hose.
  2.  
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Check for leaks.
  6.
