REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1983-87 Models

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.

  1. Remove the parcel tray located under the dash.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two discharge duct bracket mounting screens, and then pull out the two brackets and the duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right side forward console cover.
  6.  
  7. Unscrew and remove the relay bracket located under the motor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the motor wiring. If equipped, unscrew and remove the A/C amplifier and route the wiring harness out of the way.
  10.  
  11. Remove the three mounting screws, and remove the motor, gasket, and blower assembly. If necessary, remove the blower mounting nut and washers and the separate the unit from the shaft.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the blower wheel onto the shaft with washers and mounting nut.
  2.  
  3. Position the blower with gasket up into the case and attach with the retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the A/C amplifier and route the wiring harness properly.
  6.  
  7. Connect the motor wiring.
  8.  
  9. Install the relay bracket and the right side forward console cover.
  10.  
  11. Assemble the ducting with brackets and screens.
  12.  
  13. Install the parcel tray.
  14.  
  15. Reconnect the battery.
  16.  
  17. Cycle the blower through all the speeds to check for proper operation.
  18.  

1988-91 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 3 screws attaching the retainer.
  4.  
  5. Remove the glove box. Pull out the duct between the blower motor assembly and the heater assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the blower motor wire in the case.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the air source selector control cable at the blower motor assembly.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the nuts and bolts attaching the blower motor to the blower case, remove the blower motor from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  14.  
  15. Check the blower for proper operation at all speeds.

199296 Models

See Figures 2 and 3

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds to proceed work due to the SRS system.
  2.  


CAUTION
Some models covered by this guidemay be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Chassis Electrical .

  1. Remove the lower instrument panel and the No. 2 panel under the passengers side of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiring connector bracket.
  4.

  1. Disconnect the harness attached to the motor, unscrew the motor and extract it from the vehicle.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Postion the motor into the dash, attach with the mounting screws. Attach the motor harness.
  2.  
  3. Install the connector bracket.
  4.  
  5. Install and secure the instrument panel and the No. 2 under cover.
  6.
